Free Music Review: if you find these 4 Stars
"My non-christian friends were raving about this CD. I listened to it to try to relate to them on their level, but I just couldn't do it. Between the continuous stream of profanity and the flat lies he tells about our President George W. Bush, it was all the self-control I had in me to stop myself from destroying my friend's CD. There's nothing remotely funny about this CD, unless you find treason or slander humorous. Save your money and go buy some real comedy"
i find treason and slander extremely guess im a mean person.....
now try this:
"I teach a Sunday school class and one of my students brought this in because I had requested all children to bring in a CD that inspires them.
I consider myself pretty much up with youth trends as I take our youth group to many Christian rock concerts. I've also led panel discussions on "The Passion of Christ."
When Mr. Cross started in saying he'd rather hear the death rattle of his only child rather than the sublime sounds of Creed I immediately turned off the CD and burst into tears.
His acid-tinged tongue burned deep into the souls of the youth group students. He's right. It's not funny.
Our group got over David's falsehoods by listening to Clay Aiken's newest record."
this better be a joke the only thing worse than creed is clay aiken, actually i think it is a joke nevermind.......
but this is really funny:
"As an upset fan of both Creed and Evanescence (I've been into them since October), I would like to say that Mr. Cross really has no right to slander and malign these wonderful, spiritual bands who are only trying to do God's work on Earth. I'd like to see David Cross write something with the simple purity of "I will take you higher", or have the security in his born-again Christian heterosexuality to pose shirtless on an album cover. It's too bad that his relentless God-bashing got in the way of some genuinely funny routines about electric scissors and "Family Circus" cartoons. Now that is material that the whole family can enjoy. Previously, I had been a fan of Mr. Cross's work. I particularly enjoyed him in the blockbuster satiric masterpiece "Scary Movie 2", and of course I chuckle constantly at his wonderful voiceovers on Fox's heartwarming "Oliver Beene" show. It's just a shame that the influence of recreational drugs and the perks resulting from his success in Hollywood after his starring role in "Run Ronnie Run" have apparently led him astray and off of God's path. I will continue to pray for him and hope that he gets back to the kind of comedy that makes us laugh without having to resort to making fun of others. Of course, he'll never reach the level that Bill Engvall has, but it would be unfair to compare him to the greats."
yea
so in conclusion if you want to burn religious people's souls and you hate creed and other pseudo christian rockbands who are devoid of talent........and if you think bill engvall sucks or enjoy watching other people getting made fun of, then im pretty sure you'll enjoy this. its not quite as funny as these negative reviews i posted
Free Music Review: A Great Leap Forward Hit: 4 Stars
David Cross seemed to be proud of the fact that he winged a good number of dates on the tour that spawned the "Shut Up You F***ing Baby" double CD; the downside to that was a gross lack of focus in the material. Also, his choice of venue - music venues instead of comedy venues - found his audience yelping at the dirty material and remaining impassive through the more cerebral offerings.
On "It's Not Funny", Cross does a 180 and performs a tight set in front of a comedy club audience. The result is a great leap forward from the meandering "Shut Up" - even his interactions with the audience are limited to brief exchanges rather than the too-long segment that dries up Disc Two of the former album.
The material is, as can be expected, not as sharp or disciplined as Cross' work on "Mr. Show", as there is no Otherman/Odenkirk to balance his observations (the bit on "have you seen the ad about electric scissors" is only saved by crass broadsides). However, the entire disc is a very good performance and holds together.
Hopefully, Cross will continue to produce discs, as he and Lewis Black are the true, dark voice of America.
Free Music Review: Contains Great Political Satire Hit: 4 Stars
I was at one of the shows recorded here, and my impression of the show that night matches my impression of this disc. It is, in part, brilliant. Specifically, when Cross is doing "political" material or material that relates to the flaws in our society and culture. When he moves away to other topics/areas, he becomes more ordinary and at times just irritating. He should not run from a reputation as a political satirist, he should embrace it - the better half of this material is phenomenal, as was his 2002 album to an even greater degree. He is an effective storyteller as well, but as a stand-up his desire to irritate and offend works best when he is railing against the villain that is right-wing America.Tracks 3, 7, and 8 are probably the highlights here and if you're a thinking person who shares Cross' disgust with the afore-mentioned right-wing America you will probably laugh until you hemmorage. Cross at his best is like Bill Maher or AL Franken with more bite and anger.
