Free Music Notes for Shut Up, You Fucking Baby!Free Music Review: absolutely hilarious, not for the sensitive, religious folks though Hit: 5 Stars
i've owned this album for quite a while now, and was looking for some other comedy album to purchase, and saw the average "star" rating for this when looking for my new purchase. it was kind of surprising given the usual 4-5 star ratings for almost every cd on here no matter the quality or genre, but when i scrolled through some of the reviews i noticed for whatever reason some folks gave this 1 star. my question to those people are, why did you buy this then? how did these people even stumble across david cross in the first place and have the time to waste to post the review? i saw one person had even reviewed this album with 1 star because they saw a clip of cross' on youtube? now how much sense does that make? just because you believe something doesn't make it true, so take it easy and let the rest of us think for ourselves. to those people i say grow up, expand your horizons, and relax- it's comedy.
as far as the album goes, it is pure hilariousness. david cross is not afraid to say how he feels, what he thinks, and does not care who is offended. if you can't appreciate that, then this album won't be for you. if you like to laugh, and aren't afraid to hear something a little thought-provoking and different from what you may be used to being saturated with, then i couldn't recommend this cd more. i have listened to this album in its entirety countless times, and its still as funny as the first time i heard it. and to give you a little perspective, i usually lean a little more to the right-wing side of things, but am certainly no religious freak. this is what comedy is supposed to be- take it or leave it.
Free Music Review: Here's A Thought . . . Hit: 5 Stars
Here's a thought . . .
I've read a lot of the reviews for this album(s). And I must say . . . First of all everyone who bought this because they liked him on Just Shoot Me or Scary Movie 2 . . well if you don't like it that is your own fault for not doing your research. Same for those who are religious, republican, or easily offended. Its called "Don't buy things you don't know about".
Now. As for all of you who call the delivery on these albums "amateurish". First of all . . .he's not an amatuer by any means. He's been in "the biz" longer than I've been alive. And clearly, if he did not intend for his listeners to hear every "uh", "uhm", or "whatever", then guess what! They wouldn't be on there! So the "amatuer" argument has no basis.
So here's my review:
Buy this album if you want to open your mind. And that could mean on any topic including religion, politics, human nature, and everything in between.
Maybe also it will open your mind to the very idea of what a comedy album can be.
Like the pre-packaged, heavily edited, and condensed mainstream sort of comedy album? Don't buy this.
Appreciate the intimacy of the conversations you have with your friends over way-too-many drinks at three in the morning? Then this is the album for you.
Free Music Review: Hilarious lefty rants Hit: 5 Stars
David Cross is a master of sharp, angry irony and mercilessly accurate description. The parts about the South, and Atlanta in particular, were totally dead-on indictments of the lingering ignorance and racism and proud hick-ness of the region. And his unflinching send-ups of national craziness after 9/11 and its exploitation by opportunistic, incompetent politicians is not only hilarious but also heartnening, because it emboldens you that the man can stand on stage and not shy away from the hypocrisy and, in his own words, "evil" power-grubbing tendencies of our post-9/11 leaders, especially Bush. Cross's main strength as a humorist is his mastery of irony, but as an orator he's nearly unmatched. Always hitting where it hurts, but still making you laugh, he's like a white Chris Rock. His long bits--criticized by another reviewer as "long-winded"--are fluid and creative. In fact this is the best comedy I've heard (I just heard it in June '04) since Rock's latest HBO special, and better than most anything else of recent memory.
Free Music Review: He's Right Hit: 5 Stars
He's right about just about everything on here, just as Lenny Bruce was just about always right 40 years ago.Cross in these two comedy sets spends a lot of effort attacking George Bush and the "war on terrorism" head on. Some listeners found this unpalatable. Me, I happened to listen to this for the first time just a few weeks after the fall of Iraq, when it was becoming increasingly obvious that our President was and had been lying his ... off for some time, and that he was seemingly incapable of solid planning. All I can say is, thank you David for being there and speaking the truth so plainly (as Lenny B. did in previous decades), and helping me to have the confidence to find my footing and realize the surreal nature of the times we are living in. Cross is a funny, funny, funny guy. Probably the funniest one living. I know he angered a lot of people with the content in these rants but history has borne him out. I recommend this CD to everyone, everywhere though you should be aware that he does use quite a bit of profanity throughout.
Free Music Review: My sides still hurt Hit: 5 Stars
This 2 disc set is worth the money. And if not your money, then somebody elses!. Just scrounge up the cash damn you. This stand up is offensive, origional and filled with laughing drunk people dropping beer bottles onto the floor or into the garbage. What more could you ask for? David Cross is by far one of the funniest comics I've ever come across. I think he should have been drinking a lot more so we could have seen how much further he would have gone with the priest and pope bit. I almost feared that someone in the crowd was going to toss a beer bottle at his head for being so fierce. David Cross' views on "9/11" are so brutally honest and so what's on your mind you just want to give this man a hug. (Argh. I finally used the term 9-11! Looks like I'll be owing someone a Coke!) Imagine a country with David Cross as President and Bill Maher as Vice President. What a dream. Anyway. Buy this CD. Make this man richer. He needs new shoes.
