Free Music Notes for Live In Gdansk (2 CD/2 DVD)Free Music Review: 1st DVD and all the CDs are awesome Hit: 5 Stars
I just picked up this version plus bonus cd at Best Buy today.
If you are a David Gilmour fan, this is a must have item. Also,
this could be Richard Wright's last great performance with the band.
Sorry to hear that he died of cancer just one week ago. This alone
made this a must have item for me.
I have only watched the first DVD in this set and all I can say
is the video and audio are simply awesome.
Many of David's previous tunes are featured on this set accompanied
by the Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra, giving it a slightly different
sound which I really enjoyed.
The sound is more detailed and polished than in the previous
'Remember That Night' DVD which I would also give 5 stars.
I cannot wait to hear the rest of the CD's and the other DVD in
this set!
Update: I just listened to all he CDs and I was struck by the
incredible detail and dynamic range they have. Much better range
than my 13 year old CD set of Pink Floyd's 'Pulse' concert which
certainly is no slouch.
At this point I'm not sure if these CDs are a direct clone of the
DVD or not. It doesn't appear to be, but I could be wrong.
Free Music Review: David beats back the doubt Hit: 5 Stars
After watching Rember that Night numerous times on Blu-ray and thinking, "Damn, the music is fantastic and the lighting looks cool, but the camera exposure is screwed due to the fog..." I had my doubts about this apparent double dip in the well that is On an Island. Another concert disc with basically the same set list? Why?
Of course, as the desperate fan of anything that resembles the Floyd, I bought it. The 4 disc version none the less! Let me tell you. I am glad I did! This set blows away the performance of Remember. I don't know if it is the open air staging, the energetic crowd, the giant screens, the orchestra, the sound...but it all works great! I love this set! I have listened to the cds ,which are beautifully recorded and produced, endlessly. I have watched the DVD numerous times and the bonus DVD content is also great, but not essential. The true treat here is a 5.1 presentation of On an Island! This will blow you away!
I don't think I will ever watch Remember again, just pop this one in and be taken on a journey back to great music and production....
Free Music Review: Live in Gdansk Hit: 5 Stars
I am a rabid Floyd fan, but as yet have been unable to get very excited about Gilmour solo work. I loved the historical significance of Waters' Berlin Wall performance, so I ordered the Live in Gdansk 2 CD/2 DVD edition for the same reason. I have had it for a month now, and I haven't listened to or viewed anything else. The CDs are filled with a perfect mix of some the best classic Floyd tunes as well as Gilmour's newer material. Disc 3 is excellent, but the real treasure is disc 4. I am always amazed when I hear the various components of Pink Floyd music coming together, but it's even more amazing to actually see it. The highlights are Gilmour's slide guitar artistry on High Hopes, as well as the Barn Jam session, where he takes a turn on the drums. What a musician! I loaned it out, and disc 3 was damaged, so I'm seriously considering springing for the $115 edition. It's that good!
Free Music Review: Watch the Jams first! Hit: 5 Stars
It is quite unbelievable that those guys simply get their instruments and play with no script at all. The three jams, available on the second DVD, are sensational. Maybe David Gilmour should release a double CD/DVD with these jams, I would certainly buy it with great joy. You will be able to witness the musicianship that those guys share, with smiles on their faces. Then, you must go to rest of the material on both DVDs. Be ready for wonderful versions of "High Hopes" (celestial with the orchestra) and "On An Island", plus the best version ever of "Echoes". Richard Wright will be missed, for his music and also for his "good guy" personna. Hopefully there are plans to release this material in the Blu Ray format. Happy to be on this planet, sharing my existence along with David Gilmour and his incredible talent.
Free Music Review: Enjoying it, but the booklet... Hit: 5 Stars
I was surprised to receive this in the mail today! Haven't watched the DVDs yet. I'm currently half-way through the second CD. There's a beautiful and touching version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond (maybe the first time the song was performed after Syd's death). Very excited to hear a live version of Echoes, my favorite song...
But I think they messed up the booklet that came with the 2CD/2DVD set. I open it up and see the listings for disc 1. Then I turn the page and see disc one again, upside down. Turn the page again and disc 3 is listed. Then I turn the page and again see disc 3, again upside down.
Not that it's a real big deal, but I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this.
