Free Music Notes for Live In Gdansk (2 CD/2 DVD)Free Music Review: Really Enjoyable Hit: 5 Stars
This is an excellent DVD/CD set for anyone who enjoys David Gilmour's work and his playing. The sound and video are superb quality and the music is great. Warning if you are looking for another Pink Floyd calssics collection, this is not it. There is a really nice version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond and a cool version of Comfortably Numb with the symphony orchestra playing the string parts. It is nice to see Rick Wright in what I suppose is one of his last recorded performances. What stands out the most here for me is Gilmour's guitar work. I especially enjoy the "barn jams" which are just what they sound like and his lap steel playing is particularly nice. This is well worth the cost.
Free Music Review: "On An Island" 5.1 Mix Worth The Wait! Hit: 5 Stars
Hello, I (we) have been patiently waiting for the 5.1 mix of "On An Island" since David Gilmour "promised" it to us at the time of the initial release. Here it is in all it's purported glory. The DTS playback takes the cake for me due to the expanded bass and the fact that I can play DTS discs without any filtering via my Denon 2900 player. The 5.1 mix is great- very discrete. All five channels are used, with classy restraint. Not as aurally "wild" as the DSOTM SACD got at times, but still very exciting to finally hear. Can't say much more about the other DVD content, because I primarliy purchased this set for this 5.1 offering. Thank you.
Free Music Review: Over The Top Hit: 5 Stars
David has taken live performance to the next level in this DVD. Backed by a great band, the Polish Symphony and accompanied by Richard Wright (in one of his last recorded performances) this is all any Gilmour , or Pink Floyd fan, could hope for short of an actual reunion, which won't happen now with Wright's death. There is an incredible passion to this performance which, I believe, comes from the reason the concert was held - to celebrate the anniversary of the solidarity movement in Poland which greatly contributed to the downfall of rthe Soviet Union. Highly recommended!
Free Music Review: Live In Gdansk Hit: 5 Stars
I am huge fan of Pink Floyd and David really shows his perfection in this album ..... The strings are never overbearing or too cloying as is so often the case where anyone attempts to render rock in classical brushstrokes. Performed whole here, the work is improved by the setting - the stately grandeur sounding custom-made for huge arenas - along with a brace of PF classics. It's stirring stuff, as you'd expect. On a more somber note, however, Live In Gdansk works as a fitting swan song for keyboardist Wright, who passed away on September 15th.
Free Music Review: David Gilmour, Live in Gdansk Hit: 5 Stars
This is a great addition to anyones Pink Floyd/Gilmour collection. This performanace I felt Breaks from the Pink Floyd type that everyone expects to see but that does not detract from the performance. If there is one down side to the performance is there is no female back ground. David has always enhanced His and Floyds music with some of the most beautiful female voices and in this one he fails to do so. Richard Wright does a fabulous performance on Comfortably Numb. This is a must for your collection.
