Free Music Review: A Hidden Gem.
Hit: 5 Stars

David is so innocent, so delightfully naive in this album. Yet, it's a protected, cherished naivete.

This is without doubt Gray's most poetic, most jubilant album. Whenever I become cynical about love (which is far too often... all of us David Gray fans know of this all too well!!), I can pop in this CD and pretend that I believe the world to still hold so many beautiful adventures in love for me.

Though I appreciate the severe heaviness of Gray's other work, I deeply treasure this side of David we get to see. The lightness and excitement his disposition portrays is absolutely charming in such an endearing manner.

"Flesh." Pure gold. I do not believe I've heard a song this powerful and serenely convincing in its certainty of true love. (Actually, I think you could rank this song as his "Folk Song" `s (Sell Sell Sell) antithesis). After hearing a song like this, I would never want any other kind of love.

This is a must-have; you'd be crazy to be a David Gray fan and not make sure you own this album.

Easily David Grays masterpiece. Start to finish...the aggressive energy from "What Are You?"...the Summer driving happiness of "The Light." This album has it all! When down and out, try starting your day with "New Horizons" before putting some "FLESH", on the bones of your dreams. Quite disappointed when experiencing that he doesn't play much of this live.

Free Music Review: David Gray is a Musical Treasue !!

Right when I was starting my "must buy every David Gray CD available" I had trouble tracking this CD down. One day I found it in a used CD store after asking if they had any Gray CD's. The man working there said "well, only this one...it's not White Ladder." I couldn't believe how close minded he was to only care about what was "Hot" at the time. I said "Yeah...but it's David Gray so I'm sure it's great". The first track (What are You?)was very aggressive and angry and as much as I liked it right away I was afraid that it would be "Theme Album" like so many tend to do. His whole album could have been that abrasive. That's when I learned something about Gray that has served me well ever since: David Gray uses certain sounds and instruments only if it benifits a song then lets it go. He never forces a instument through an entire album. Case in point is "Mystery of Love" which is the only song that has Pedal Steel in it and what an amazing sound. His songs make your soul ache for more. His lyrics are so cryptic yet beautiful it's a pleasure to feel them wash over you. I have heard that this album originally was his poorest selling out of all his efforts but it was due to no promotional effort by the record company not the superb music recorded hear. For those customers who fear that there is a chance any of his albums may lack compaired to others, have no fear David Gray is one of the few in this world whose work always adds to the world of music. I hope this helped:)

Clever writing. He has a knack for blending lyrics with melodies that is rare these days. Great album!
