The music was actually the thing that made me start to watch the show on a regular basis. I think that without this wonderful score, the show wouldn't have been as popular. Since I haven't been able to find any of these tracks on iTunes or elsewhere for individual purchase, I have to give this album a recommendation.
Overall, the music lacks significant cohesiveness in tone to make it really compelling as a whole and sometimes employs curious instrumentation and style, but individual pieces like Voices of Heaven and the main theme (Ancient Voices) are emotively powerful in their simplicity despite the use of what sounds like "sampled" sounds in place of natural instruments like the strings in Ancient Voices.
The CD does a better job than many soundtracks in including key musical moments that should be there even while it is understandably constrained to include the almost glaring departures from the kind of atmosphere you'd expect from music for such a subject.
All the stand out tracks are here: Ancient Voices, I Can See It (think, the reflective waterfall-idol-tossing ceremony from Outback), Voices of Heaven, and the foreboding tribal council backdrop Tally the Vote.
Four fantastic tracks with other nice cues is enough for me to give this album a thumbs up. If you have a favorite cue or two, chances are it's here.
Free Music Review: Not What I Expected

I loved the show Survivor and couldn't wait until Wednesday evenings to see what would happen next. When I heard about the new album, I was very excited and couldn't wait to get one. I like song 1, "Ancient Voices" (an extended version of the opening of the show), "Tally the Vote", and the last song "Ancient Voices (Main Title Theme). These 3 songs bring back "memories" of the program and the people on the island. The other 15+ songs did not appeal to me. I think I expected more of the songs to remind me of the show.Free Music Review: Only for Hardcore Fans.

I bought this CD back in my Survivor days. I was obsessed with Season Two, but never liked the other Seasons! I dunno, I guess the CD is alright, it's not my favorite. I only really listened to the beginning theme and the song that they played during the voting out ceremony. Only buy it if you are a hardcore fan, otherwise just skip it altogether! Enjoy! (maybe)
