Free Music Review: The Great Whitfield

The Welsh lyric tenor, David Whitfield, was one of the greatest British male popular singers of the fifties and even in America - he found favour as he became the first British male singer to have a million selling record - "Cara Mia" which he sang on "The Ed Sullivan Show". He also sang "I'll Never Stop Loving You" on Ed Sullivan as well and this is my only gripe with this album - that although it is listed on this album's contents - it is not included on the compact disc - but there are so many other great numbers that make up for its omission. These are the original first time recordings of David Whitfield and not the later darker voiced remakes(which although they are good - they lack the thrilling high notes of his early recordings). It is perhaps the lack of a sonic rejuvenator like Cedar 2 that gives this compact disc a slightly diminished sound but its aural quality is more than acceptable. Listen and enjoy!
