Free Music Notes for 20th Century Masters: Millennium CollectionFree Music Review: Whip It Baby! Hit: 5 Stars
I'm on a hunt to restock my old school and funk LP's. Picked up this inexpensive and wonderfully remastered compilation of hits from the Dazz Band. It's terrific to hear the funk power of "Let It Whip", "To The Roof", "Joystick", "Party Right Here", and all the other monster hits on one disc. The remastered sound is slamming! "Let it Whip" is a song that never grows old despite being written almost 20 yrs ago. The thumping bass line makes you wanna dance all night long. Long Live the Dazz Band!

From the Grammy winning monster funk 'Let It Whip',electro-groove 'Joystick' to synth-funk 'Let It All Blow', outstanding slow-jam 'Invitation To Love', this cd deserves top mark! Check out the E,W &F - ish 'I might as well forget about lovin you' by Kinsman Dazz, before they formed Dazz Band . 'Shake It Up' should have been on this great collection. An essential collection by our favourite synth-funk unit!

The resurgence of Funk is a definite plus. We get to buy all the old jams we've lost. The only problem is that "greatest hits" collections often dont give an accurate picture of what made a group special. This disc is fantastic, all tracks are classics, however where are the great slow jams that defined the Dazz Band sound, "Dont Gamble With My Love," "Heartbeat," "More Than Love," "When You Needed Roses," "Bad Girl," and of course "A Love Song." These were great songs showcasing beautiful melodies, great harmonies, and standout virtuosso performances from Skip and Pierre. They were also the kinds of songs that wanna-be vocalists could only dream about singing (i.e. karaoke-proof). Yes, Dazz Band was a "baddass Funk-collective" who could ignite the dance floor like no other, but they could also "sing" and croon like you wouldn't believe. So if you're a DJ this CD will provide you with great riffs to sample. And it is a great collection ever destined to re-ignite the dancefloor through endless "DJ" remixes, but in my opinion it lacks the true essence of Dazz Band.
Free Music Review: The Best of the Dazz Band: The Millenium Collection. Hit: 4 Stars
Without a doubt this CD brought back memories when rollerskating, in and out of the rink, during the early 80s, was the "in" thing to do. My four favorite songs I can "roll, bounce and skate" to are: "Let it Whip" a dance-club classic, "Keep It Live (On the K.I.L.)," "Joystick" with its heartbeating thumps, and "Swoop (I'm Yours)." These are fast-paced songs that could really give your heart a good cardio.
