Free Music Review: Unlike anything you've ever heard.

Chances are, you don't have anything else like this in your cd collection. I've been listening for 13 years and still have no real comparisons. Only the "Cocteau Twins" or a darker "Enya" come to mind...but not really. Though some of their stuff has kind of a tribal sound to it, most of this collection is more gothic, more medieval. I always envision this music coming out of some cathedral, in a far away and mysterious place, hundreds of years ago. That's what's so wonderful about "Dead Can Dance". They can transport you to places other music cannot. I also enjoy both the male, and female vocals, on the tracks that have them. I honestly think that someone would enjoy most of their albums equally, but this does give you a taste of many of them. For the longest time,the concept of their music and the striking artwork of their then expensive import only releases haunted me. This collection was their first US release,so I took a chance and was rewarded with a unique listening experience. I prefer the more,somber gothic side of their music (Brendan Perry)as opposed to the world music caterwauling of Lisa Gerard. But this CD has a good mix, and the Gerard pieces are some of her more tolerable stuff. I would much rather hear a collection of Perry only pieces (he does have a solo album)plus the instrumentals,but this collection should be a good enough introduction for anyone.Free Music Review: Close your door, open your soul.

A friend of mine said recently:"DcD?, the problem with us is that you never know what you're gonna hear", that could be the slogan for A PASSAGE IN TIME, but I don't think it's a problem. With this album, you will make a fabulous 75 minutes travel around world and time. Buy it (or record it or even hake it but find it!)and have a good trip! ps: unlike some people mind, drug aren't necessary to trip, as we said in french: à vous de voir...Free Music Review: A majsetic dark wonderland.

This is one band I totally respect! Fantastic arrangements, multiple layers of instruments come together to create a strong dark journey that takes you back into time and explores a variety of musical ethnic backgrounds. This CD is a collabaration of their works from past, a good way to get a good idea of thier history and a great starter Cd for this band if you've been wanting to check this band out but not sure where to start.Free Music Review: Great, but not the best

This album has some great songs on it, but overall I prefer and recommend Spiritchaser to this. Though it has some amazing musical experiences packed away, if you're in it for the whole, there are much better albums by DCD. For the 'beginner', I recommend A Passage in Time AND Spiritchaser. The combination will set you up to become a steadfast Dead Can Dance fan. It did it for me!
