Free Music Notes for A Passage In TimeFree Music Review: Wonderful, thought-provoking and relaxing Hit: 4 Stars
I really like this CD, as it makes for a nice relaxing backdrop after a long day, or if I am wanting to meditate or think, it is also good for that. A lot of the songs are 'dancable' if you like to do belly dance, as well. The tracks are versitle so it doesn't sound like you are listening to the same song over and over, but do work well together, and have a nice cohesion.
Free Music Review: Dead Can Dance : Passage In Time Hit: 4 Stars
Excellent CD with many titles that are from previous releases and a few that are new. A great sampling of the many superb works by this band..
Free Music Review: Buy the "real" CDs! Hit: 3 Stars
This is a "best of" album, not a regular CD.Granted: All the songs on this CD would be worth 5 stars (or more!), but (and this is a big BUT) 1. The are a bit out of the context of the real CDs which, well, takes away a bit of their magic (they would still be worth 5 stars) 2. After listening to this CD, you _definitely_ want to buy the other CDs (because this music is highly addictive) and there you have the same songs again. So if you're new to DcD, better start with some of the "easier" CDs, like "Into the Labyrinth" or "Spiritchaser" - and if you already own one or more DcD CDs, get the other ones. You won't regret it!
Free Music Review: Decent introduction to DCD Hit: 3 Stars
I was introduced to the world of Dead Can Dance through this CD, and I must confess that I did not find it of any interest at first, although "The Host of Seraphim" did caught my attention, but the rest of the songs were of no interest to me. The CD was left inside of its case for about a month before I ventured to listen to it again, just to give it a second try. This time, it was, for no apparent reason, a great listen, but still some songs are left from my list of "top favorites". This is a fine introduction to DCD, but I would recommend buying "Withing the Realm of a Dying Sun" first, and then moving to this one.
Free Music Review: A nice gesture, but... Hit: 3 Stars
As the previous reviewer has said, Dead Can Dance's work is best experienced in the context of the album, not the individual tracks. DCD was certainly no 'singles band', to say the least! Sure, you can listen to a few tracks from a release such as "Aion", but you won't 'get' the sweeping and amazing atmospheric evocation that that release brings to someone experiencing the whole album in its entirety. So I wouldn't even recommend this as a casual overview; go get "Within the Realm of a Dying Sun", "Aion", and their swansong "Spiritchaser" if you really want the full immersion into DCD.
