Free Music Review: Best Dead Kennedys live recording

"Mutiny On the Bay" is certainly the best live album that I've heard by punk greats Dead Kennedys. Recorded live and in their prime around the San Francisco Bay Area, it's a real glimpse of their legendary live shows. It's full of passion and energy. The sound quality here is quite impressive; you hardly realize that there's probably a bunch of folks up on stage getting in the way of everything--after all, it's a DKs show! You can hear all the different intricate musical parts on this recording and you can tell that they played super ferociously onstage. There is of course a great selection of classic tracks like "Police Truck," "Holiday In Cambodia" and "California Uber Alles" but there are also some great sounding versions of lesser known stuff such as "Goons of Hazard" and "This Could Be Anywhere." Some of the songs, for instance "MTV Get Off the Air" and "Moon Over Marin," are much more vital and energetic on this live recording than they are in the studio versions.
