Free Music Notes for Forever CoolFree Music Review: A 5-star collection of post-humous duets with Dean Martin Hit: 5 Stars
I really love this CD. I won't review each song; I generally agree with those reviewers here who rave about the CD. I am a fan of Dean Martin (and even more so of Frank Sinatra) and find that most of the Forever Cool versions are just as good, and sometimes better, than the classic versions. Take, for example, "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face." His original version from 1966 is slower and is accompanied by piano; it is wonderful, but not the source of the vocal for the 2007 CD. The 2007 version with Chris Botti on trumpet is a bit faster and just as, if not more, sublime. They are simply two different and great versions of the song, and I am grateful for the new version. The primary difference between the 1962 and 2007 versions of "Baby-O" is that the former uses a chorus, and the latter one singer (Martina McBride), to duet with Martin. Both versions are extremely upbeat and bring a smile to my face. I like the 1959 and 2007 versions of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" equally, although I must say that the new version has more personality and a more lively instrumental. I'll stop there to keep this review on the shorter side. If you like Dean Martin, and if you are not too much of a purist about these efforts, I believe that you will appreciate this CD very much.
Free Music Review: Having Dean in your Living Room Hit: 5 Stars
Whoever wrote the first negative review is who is "uncool." If he watched the DVD of how it was made -- the accompaniment was a live orchestra with some of the best including some of the older folks who played for Sinatra. The music wasn't layered like it's done today -- the music was live. The enthusiam that the musicians and vocalists had for this project was contagious. I loved the enhanced sound and the modern takes on the old classics. Some of the new "partners" I had never heard of before but they all did a great job including Kevin Spacy. It was done with Sinatra (live)when his voice was at its worst and then a second one later. In both cases -- I say "If you love the man -- you'll love the music!"
A CD you'll listen to over and over again!
Free Music Review: "Oh, That Felt Good!" Hit: 5 Stars
This is what Kevin Spacey says at the end of "Ain't It A Kick In The Head", one of his duets with Dean, and that just about sums up this whole album for me. Hearing Dean again with vocalists Kevin Spacey (yes, that's right the gifted actor sings on this album), and Charles Aznavour, musicians Dave Koz and Chris Botti among others who admire Dean and those classic songs is a treat for anyone who enjoys Dean's music. Many people seem to dislike these "duet" albums as if they are somehow cashing in on someones name. But projects like these, if they are done well as I believe this one is, only keep his memory alive and bring new listeners to his music. Yes, I own it, and I feel good every time I listen to it.
Free Music Review: A Welcome Treat For Dean Martin Fans Hit: 5 Stars
I'm a big Dean Martin fan and this album didn't disappoint me. For the most part, I was pleasantly surprised by the duet partners. It's clear they all admired Dean and his music.I also loved the arrangements. Dean's vocals blended in beautifully, with the production making it sound like he was present in the studio.
Just about every cut hit the mark. My favorite cuts were Who's Got The Action?, You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You, and A'int That A Kick In The Head. I have the CD with both versions of Everybody Loves Somebody. I enjoyed the Charles Aznavour version better.
Great album! Dean's music is timeless.
Free Music Review: Man, Dino really is cool. Just fantastic!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Being a Dino fan, I wasn't sure how I felt about this release..until I heard it! The new arrangements and recordings sound simply fantastic and swingin'. All the duet partners and instrumentalists hold their own very well (especially Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Chris Botti, Dave Koz, Martina McBride & Paris Bennett), but Dino truly does shine. My favorite track is the ACappella "Brahm's Lullaby". Anybody who would actually listen to this could never give it a poor review. The production value is top notch and timeless.
I hope this creates a buzz in the music world...and quality music makes a big comeback.
