Free Music Notes for TransatlanticismFree Music Review: Passion Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of those albums that make you an instant fan. You gain a quick respect for what Death Cab is trying to do. You breathe every note in with them, like its your own, your own story. You are listening to an album that diverges from models and attempts its own almost 'colonial-love' brand of art. I guess by 'colonial-love' i mean the music and the lyrics have a feeling of being uprooted from a comfortable 'love or 'place.' You sense a great deal of yearning for old times, times lost to some new social colonization.
At times during the album, I felt like I was revisiting a childhood love, but even during the song 'transatlaticism' I came across a re-awakening from all the nostalgia the album creates. The song tells you to go out and fight for something new or old, in a truly inspiring way. For most of the song, you feel adrift, letting the waves continually push you back, then at the end, you gain steam, and row yourself back into society. Also, songs like 'Lightness,' 'Lack of Color,' 'New year'and 'Photobooth' are amazing...the list goes on and on too, a truly amazing album.
This is an album for people who hate song-skipping, because it's not allowed on this album.
Free Music Review: A Sensitive Stunner Hit: 5 Stars
I had heard about Death Cab For Cutie several years ago and was curious to what their sound was like; while recently browsing through one of my favorite book/music stores, I was able to sample it at a listening station. I wasn't prepared for what lay in store for me, as the knock-the-doors down bombast of the opening track "The New Year" pleasantly assaulted my ears...in a word, WOW!! "Transatlanticism" is easily one of the most wrenching, beautiful, emotionally stunning albums I have heard this year, and definetly one of the best. Lead singer Ben Gibbard's boy next door wistfulness shines in both his lyrics and vocals; there is a vulnerable sensitivity to the songs that thankfully does not border on wimpiness. Instead, I am left with a feeling of yearning and possibility when I hear the majestically gorgeous, powerful title track "Transatlanticism"~each tune in this brilliant collection is wonderful in its own right. This is one cd I will be playing for a long time to come, and I'll give it the highest recommendation to all fellow lovers of great music. Happily, this is the first DCFC album I have purchased, but it certainly won't be my last!! :-)
Free Music Review: The classic fourth indie rock album by Death Cab For Cutie! Hit: 5 Stars
If you haven't heard "Transatlanticism", not only are you not keeping yourself with the times but you're missing out on some quality music. Though previous Death Cab albums had some great songs on them, they definitely had noticable filler. The majority of "Transatlanticism", however, is great. The material isn't groundbreaking, but you'll love it in the end. Every track is very interesting musically and lyrically with Gibbard's delivery and lyrics making each song that much better (Gibbard's voice is very pleasing). Each song has a certain hook to it that draws you in and doesn't let you go. The musicianship is also notably great - it's seemingly derivate indie rock which somehow manages to find it's own sound amidst its similarities with other fellow indie rock groups. Also, the production here is very very well done. In a way it's an anthemic album as it builds up to the great title track and then slows down for the end. Basically folks, this is just high quality indie rock, and I'm almost certain that most people in the world will love this album. Absolutely recommended!
Highlights include:
everything except the last two (which aren't bad)
Free Music Review: Seattle should be proud. Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of those bands I'd heard of for awhile (catchy band name), and a buddy of mine just turned me on to this disc and PLANS about a month ago, along with 2 of their bootleg concerts. I'm impressed. PLANS has been in my car CD player for a few weeks now, and this one has been in my bedside CD radio, which makes for pleasant waking up in the morning. As the guy from San Francisco mentioned in his Aprill 22, 2006 review, I'm also in my 50's and have loved most contemporary rock from the mid-60's up to today. If this is truly an "emo" band (which comes off as kind of a derogatory term), then sign me up. I like this one a little better than PLANS and won't go into individual reviews of each song (all of which I like), but for me the high point of the disc is the title track. The way the song starts out on a low-key narration and builds to its astounding climax with the chorus of "I need you so much closer/So come on..." just blows me away. Beautiful. I hope to have the good fortune of seeing these guys in concert soon. If you haven't heard their stuff yet and are considering it, I couldn't recommend this CD more as a primer.
Free Music Review: Stage Antics With Ben 5 Stars
i went and saw death cab 4 the first time last month!!! Their performance was exhilirating! Ben Gibbard <the lead singer> asked if someone could please come up onstage to play guitar on "Photobooth"......I happily obliged of course! Before I knew it I was onstage string into a sea of sad emo kids and i felt empowered like i could fly......I spread out my arms and began to flap my brilliant new wings for all to see! Mr. Gibbard must have been impressed because he proceeded to pull down my pants in front of everyone! Everyone was cheering, so i began doing my silly bird dance! The crowd and band were in an uproar due to my stage antics! I did my best, and i think everyone enjoyed my whimsical dancing extravaganza! The band invited me backstage were we proceeded to get wasted! [...] Id do anything for these guys after treating me so well. I did my silly dance once again for ben and the boys, then i bid them adou after exchanging numbers. They should be calling me soon to hang out! I'll keep everyone posted! This is a great album.......Filled with music made with singing, and guitars.Buy it now! You wont be disappointed!
