Free Music Notes for Necessary EvilFree Music Review: THIS IS SOME NECESSARY EVIL......and then some. Hit: 5 Stars
At first when i gave this cd a spin, i thought there were too many songs, didnt care for slower songs....BUT, after hearing it a few times more. WOW, its got to be the very best thing Debbie has done. The very blondie like SCHOOL FOR SCANDAL, the power ballad IF I HAD YOU, the beat driven DEEP END. It is great to hear debbie cover so many different kinda sounds, from dance to rock to slower songs, this cd has it all.if your are a big debbie harry and blondie fan, then your gonna love this cd. Like i said, the more i lissioned to this cd, the more i see what debbie was tryin to do.....and it works on all levels. I was hoping for something good but necessary evil it a great and fun cd. When i look back at some of Ms. Harrys solo cd, the worst has to be ROCKBIRD, I could see why the lable would drop her, KOOKOO was interesting, could have been better, really loved DEF DUMB & BLONDE, but NECESSARY EVIL tops .This cd sound fresh, cutting edge, as good if not better than what song of todays female vocalist are doing. Oh yes, i for got DEBRAVATION, it was a mixed bag, but i liked it. I couldnt say enough good things about this cd. Other great songs, CHARM ALARM, WHITEOUT, DIRTY AND DEEP, it all good. It was worth the 14 year wait for this cd, lets hope we dont have too wait that long for the next one. there is only one DEBBIE HARRY, the great queen of punk. LONG LIVE THE QUEEN. I love you debbie. You have outdone yourself. best wishes to you. I AM A FAN FOREVER. THANKS.
Free Music Review: A Rock 'n' Roll Nod With a Punk Sensability! Hit: 5 Stars
Now, here's the thing folks...I have read many of your reviews, and I cannot, for the life of me, understand why some of you rated this CD one star? Most of you rated is as I did with 5 stars, but I am directing this to the few who rated it lower. First and foremost, I am truly not a "gritty, grundgy, punk rocker"... I prefer Debbie singing her sweet falsetto to a thumping dance beat. I have ALWAYS loved previous outings like "Sweet and Low", "In Love With Love", "Backfired", and of course all of the Blondie classics. But, here is a CD that is so atypical of all of that. It is hard rocking and edgy. You can just feel the energy that Debbie is putting into these songs! From the pop gem, "Two Times Blue", which could easily be a "Maria" remake, to the hard to catagorize "Love You With A Vengence", and the somewhat tribal "Deep End", it is truly a masterpiece!
In closing, as I said before, I love my Debbie "fluff", but the meatier Debbie is is much more filling in the long run.
Free Music Review: When a Goddess rises... Hit: 5 Stars
Being a big Debbie Harry fame, I was worried about this album... didn't really like "Two Times Blue" - it was catchy but it felt like a safe single (and that I heard it all before with "Maria"). So, once I got past that song I soon discovered that Ms. Harry has not lost her magical touch. There are a couple clunkers (not bad songs, but the album would have been tighter without them) and many that would make the youth stand up and go - wow ("You're Too Hot" should be the next single, followed by one of the love songs)! The styles of music, the sounds, the lyrics - everything comes together in one nice package. And, while listening to it, you begin to hear echoes of previous songs (nice touch how they are all woven around each other). If only the promoters and radio stations would give these songs a break, maybe Ms. Harry can finally prove to all the doubters that she is one of the true, original, rock legends.
Free Music Review: Two times Fantastic Necessary 'purchase' Hit: 5 Stars
Deborah Harry is a Goddess, an icon, and a legend. This her first solo album in nearly 14 years ranks among some of her best work. If radio stations and dj's werent so 'ageist' Two Times Blue would be a massive hit, its good catchy rock/pop. Elsewhere Harry aims for a combination of styles from ballads, Hip Hop, and Soul. One can never fault Harry for being adventurous, and on Necessary Evil she never fails to impress, Charm Redux, and Naked Eye are both catchy and have choruses that stay in head long after you've heard them - in my opinion the signs of a good melody and song. Jen Jen is an interesting tribal chant but it would have been great to have heard a bit more of Harry's vocals upfront.
Necessary Evil is another achievement for a woman who already has many accomplishments to her name and a necessary addition for and lovers of good solid singing, songwriting and rock/pop. All hail the Goddess!
Free Music Review: Necessary Ear Candy!!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Deborah Harry of multiple talents has again put her magical spell on "Necessary Evil", This is her BEST album EVER!! I love her creativity on this project and of course everything she does! It's hard to single out my favorite tracks on this because they are ALL good! The youthful, fun and "rappy" -"Dirty and Deep" is fabulous and I LOVE the punk essence of "White Out"..."Needless To Say" reminds me so much of one of the ballads of her Blondie days, feels very retro to me and of course you cannot forget the radio friendly "Two Times Blue"-(the remixes of this are sublime!)and don't forget to listen to the lovelorn ballad "What Is Love", As usual Debbie puts her creative, unique mark on this album and there will be another generation of "Debbie Wannabes" from this...I am sure of it!! Deborah is a trend setter,
Not a follower...REMEBER THAT!
