Free Music Review: Def Leppard's best album, foreshadowing success to come
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is Def Leppards's finest work, a shining example of the new wave of british heavy metal from the late 70's...It features uncompromising, aggressive, old fashioned rock with haunting melodies, crunching riffs and, thanks to producer "Mutt" Lange, far more polished production values than thier debut, On Through the Night.

Joe Elliot's passionate vocals are right on the money. Steve Clark and Pete Willis's guitar work burns down the house. Musically, this 1981 album is the bridge between the raw, immediate sound of thier debut and the polished, heavily produced sound of 1983's Pyromania and foreshadowed the bands breakout commercial success. Standout tracks include "Let it Go", "Hit and Run", "Bringin' on the Heartbreak/Switch 625", and "Lady Strange".

WARNING: Be careful when listening to High N' Dry in the car, it may
cause you to want to SPEED, attracting the attention of local law enforcement!

Free Music Review: One of the best ever
Hit: 5 Stars

I was 15 when this album came out, so that tells you how long I have been listening to rock music. Having said that, in my opinion, High N' Dry is one of the best rock albums of all time. That's right ALL TIME. Why, because EVERY single song is a masterpiece of duel axe slinging riffs and grinds with great vocals that make you want to crank it and listen to it again and again. This is raw def leppard at their musically creative best. They were never able to duplicate this level of musicianship again, (although Pyromania remains the most popular Leppard release due to 2-3 songs that were big hits). This is the kind of stuff that came out of the 80's metal explosion and what is sorely lacking in today's rock. Leppard, if your listening, go back to your beginning and rock the world again!
On a side note, compare the guitar work on this album to the stuff you hear today, no comparison, where has all the talent gone? So sad.

Free Music Review: My favorite Def Lep
Hit: 5 Stars

This 'raw' CD of the Lep is their finest - before being glossed into a commercial heavy metal machine. Mind you, I love Pyromainia and Hysteria, but that is about it... This CD captures all of their early raw energy; combined with 'On through the Night', this is Lep's finest moment - and the Vault CD totally dismissed most of this and their debut!

This album was a permanent fixture in my first car (as a tape, of course), and I never tired of the sheer energy that was on 'High and Dry' - in fact, I only wished that other bands would follow suit! 'Let it Go' and 'Another Hit and Run' still make me long for that kind of stuff today. (...) This CD was good old 'feeling good' rock and roll with a heavy induction of pep and guitars by the Lep.

Lep fans - this is a MUST - for all others, you must check this out keeping in mind that this is good old 70's hard rock, not the Lep stuff that followed...

Free Music Review: Very Solid
Hit: 5 Stars

I started listening to Def Leppard in 1987 when "Hysteria" came out (I was 12 years old) and later bought the bands entire catalog up to today. Since I was more in-tune with the Pop/Metal genre of the late 80's I didn't fully appreciate what a great album "High N Dry" is. I love big guitar sound on this album. Songs like "Let it go", "Another hit and run" and "Switch 625" are classic. The more raw and less polished Metal sound of the early 80's has been coming full circle as of late with bands like The Darkness and I find myself listening to this album more than ever before. I think it would be wise for the band to come full circle as well. The polished approach of the past 2 decades is becoming tiresome. Def Leppard should make something more like High N Dry if they want to hit it big again. Unpolished. Raw. Energetic. High N Dry has stood the test of time.

Free Music Review: The Best from the Lepp
Hit: 5 Stars

I still remember the day in 1981 when I first heard Let It Go on the radio in Tucson. This group grew to be my favorite and this second release from the boys from England is what I believe to be their most raw, powerful release. While it did not get the commercial success that Pyromania or Hysteria received, the influence of producer Robert "Mutt" Lange gave it what it needed to be a major influence album for the entire 80's pop metal genre.

Let It Go, Hit and Run, High 'n' Dry, Bringin' On the Heartbreak / Switch 625, You Got Me Runnin', Lady Strange and Mirror, Mirror are great tunes. Bringin' on the Heartbreak was the defining power ballad for the group and for most of the following pop metal groups like Cinderella, Ratt and the rest. This is one of my Top Ten albums and well worth buying if you are a true Def Leppard fan.
