Free Music Review: The BEST album of the 80's!
Hit: 5 Stars

Not many people know that during the 1980's, the ONLY artist who OUT-SOLD Def Leppard was Michael Jackson. When you think of stand-out albums that REALLY stand out, 'Hysteria' has GOT to be at the top-of-the-heap. I can still recall hearing the first single blaring from a couple of home speakers out the back of a van near the boardwalk in San Diego 'Animal'. I KNEW within a few seconds I was hearing a new Leppard tune. I was RIGHT, too! As far as I can recall, this album produced more radio singles than ANY other Hard Rock band in history ('Animal', 'Rocket', 'Armageddon It', 'Pour Some Sugar On Me', 'Hysteria', 'Love Bites') wouldn't you know it was produced by John 'Mutt' Lange, widely considered one of THE MOST successful producers of the past 20 years (he has produced 5 albums that had 6 radio singles each--NO other producer in HISTORY can match that). MY personal favorite song is 'Excitable' and I have NO idea how 'Armageddon It' became a single and 'Excitable' didn't, but then again, there is probably a good reason why I am NOT in the music producing biz. By the way, in concert, the song 'Woman' was one of the best they sang live--but NOTHING they did beat the sound of 'Two Steps Behind' in concert. If you have a chance to see 'em, do NOT pass it up--despite the way Joe Elliot sings, his voice is remarkably strong and preserved. GOTTA see 'em if you can!

Free Music Review: One of the greatest rock albums of all time!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I remember being a young boy wathing MTV in the late 80's. Back the they actually played music. Anyway I saw Pour Some Sugar On Me, and was stunned. I begged my uncle, who owned Hysteria to make me a copy. Since then I have bought everything Def Leppard has released. first on tape then on CD. It's almost 10 years ago and I still consider Hysteria their best album and one of greatest albums ever released.

There are a lot of reasons why this album is so great. First of all the songs. This album produced 7 hit singles. I dare you, try to find that many hits on a single Britney Spears album. I don't think you can. It may not be clever or intelligent song writing, but the songs are very cathcy. The album was released in 1987, but the album has stood the test of time. The singles are stil playing on the radio. when you hear Pour some sugar on me, love bites or Animal you can't hear that it is songs from the 80's. Eventhough, they are typical 80's song, they dosen't sound like everything else from that period of time. And that is best thing about this record. I guess, that this is mostly due to Mutt Lange, the producer. Last but not least the band them selves gives their best performances ever.

So there you go. Sadly Def Leppard has not made a truly great album since then, apart from the underrated Slang album, but I haven't lost faith in them.

Free Music Review: One of the most awesome hard rock albums, ever.
Hit: 5 Stars

Hysteria is by a significant margin Def Leppard's best album (Pyromania is the 2nd best. No other Def Leppard albums come close to either of them.). Most bands are are lucky enough to come up with an album which has 2 or 3 great songs. In my opinion, 8 of the 12 tracks from Hysteria are awesome and some of the best hard rock songs ever concocted by any artist. (The only tracks that I don't care for are "Don't Shoot Shotgun," "Run Riot," "Exciteable," and "Love And Affection.")

The music of Hysteria is rife with very memorable and melodic hooks that sometimes straddle the category of 'power ballad' but they all absolutely rock. "Hysteria" and "Pour Some Sugar On Me" are the best Def Leppard songs ever. Two of my favorite songs that weren't included in Vault: 15 Greatest Hits are "Women" (great tune, great lyrics) and "Gods Of War" which is one of DL's most complex and emotionally powerful songs. It's an anti-terrorist song and Ronald Reagan's audio excerpts and the jet sounds at the end are terrific. Simply because Vault omitted these two tracks, I made my own Def Leppard hits compilation on CD-R.

Aside from Hysteria and Pyromania, Def Leppard's other albums are very subpar, mediocre at best. Hysteria is awesome and may be the best hard rock album of all time. It's certainly my favorite of all time.

Free Music Review: Hysteria! Def Leppard's best album to date!
Hit: 5 Stars

I love Def Leppard. They were the sound of the 1980s. They were regular perfomers on MTV during the 1980s. They not only made videos but they made music history. I was watching the movie based on the group's beginnings and the troubles. The fact that the drummer plays with only one arm after a tragic car accident shows the band's determination in returning to the concert halls as Def Leppard. The boys from Sheffield, South Yorkshire were just ordinary boys who wanted to form a band. This album with their first hit, Pour Some Sugar On Me, played endless and countless times on MTV. I won't forget the other songs like Hysteria, Love Bites, Armageddon, and I think this collection showed that Def Leppard was back and better than ever. They matured and grew and suffered some setbacks. They lived during the period of sex, drugs, and music. It's still music today. It's classic. I think of Def Leppard as one of the greatest music bands in British history. I would love to seem them all honored with the British honor like an MBE just like the Beverley Sisters or as long as they get honored as a group would be thrilling. I wish their fans would nominate them. If I could nominate everybody I thought would get it, it would be too much for me. I pray the fans would find a way that they all can get to the palace.

Free Music Review: A BOY BAND for REAL MEN
Hit: 5 Stars

Killer melodies, Drop-dead guitar riffs, power chords (worthy of the name), and decent lyrics: no wonder this CD sold by the truckload.

This is not just Def Leppard's best, it's about the best of the heavy-metal CD's that were all the rage during the 1980's.

At over 60 minutes in length, it was long by 1980's standards, but right in line with contemporary CD's. Unlike the modern acts, though, this one is not a hit or 2 with 50+ minutes of filler attached. This is a collection of rock anthems and killer songs that just happened to all get packaged together.

Most bands would be lucky to have this many great riffs and tunes on a greatest hits collection. Fortunately, Def Leppard has other CD's (Pyromania, High and Dry, for starters) that are almost equqlly as good. So, if you like this one, there's more where is came from.

I suppose in this eara of 'boy bands', that some people might mistakenly believe Def Leppard was the "N'Sync" of the 1980's. Not really: one good power chord from Def Leppard and the 'boy bands' of 2000 would probably be blown off the stage --literally. ROck music is supposed to be powerful, not prissy. This is a CD from a "boy band" that showed fans how real men play music.
