Free Music Notes for Retro ActiveFree Music Review: A great rock-out alternative to Adrenalize Hit: 4 Stars
On the surface, this album sounds subpar: A bunch of old b-sides, one-offs, 10-year old songs that didn't make the cut, and peiced-together arrangements. Only Def Leppard can turn these ingredients into one of their best works. This is the album hard-Leppard fans have been waiting for since Pyromania; one that rocks the hell out without massive 'A Night At the Opera'-ish overdubbing. Songs like Ring of Fire, Fractured Love, and Action obliterate most of the hits from Hysteria and Adrenalize. The ballads are hardly as generic as 'Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad', either. Leppard cleared the decks for this album and did a damn good job of it. It's only shortcoming is the inclusion of electric versions of Miss You in a Heartbeat and Two Steps Behind. These could've been scrapped in favor of B-sides from On Through the Night or High n Dry. As is, Retroactive will satisfy even people who don't like Leppard.
Free Music Review: This Should Have Been Adrenalize Hit: 4 Stars
It's amazing to think that instead of releasing Adrenalize they could have released these songs along with "Tear It Down" and had the album out in 1990 instead of 1992. "Ring of Fire" and "I Wanna Be Your Hero" were much too good to just be B-Sides for Hysteria. "Desert Song" and "Fractured Love" are also great as is "She's Too Tough". This really is more of a complete album than a rarities collection and these songs stand up to anything else they've released. If you're a Def Leppard fan you need to own this album.
Free Music Review: Pretty good run through of Lep's B-sides Hit: 4 Stars
I am not a huge fan of this album. It's great to hear the B-sides, but this album was released around the time that every other band on the planet was releasing or re-releasing greatest hits or B-sides albums, and this one got lost in the fold. I do love the acoustic "Two Steps Behind," though. The other songs are pretty good too, but I don't think that this one is an essential Leppard album. Still though, it is worth looking into if you are a fan.
Free Music Review: The real deal. Hit: 4 Stars
After the somehow contrived'Adrenalize'album(1992),the Leps reached into the sack and came up with an excellent collection of electric and acoustic tunes that reassured those who thought that their brilliant career ended with'Hysteria'.After listening to this little gem,two things are clear:not only they can rock out but they also have a sense of depth and mood as their early albums testify. It's two steps behind...
Free Music Review: Good songs and cool cover Hit: 4 Stars
Very good cd and I have to admit the cover, which looks like a skull if seen from a distance, intrigued me. I have been a fan of DL since Pyromania and I never forget to mention to young listeners ( I am a DJ for internet radio station Gorean's Portal Radio) about the trials and tribulations the band members have gone through as well as Rick Allen's Unique method of drumming.
