Free Music Notes for Rock of Ages: The Definitive CollectionFree Music Review: Rock of Ages Hit: 5 Stars
Their latest compilation release "Rock of Ages: The Definitive Collection" can be described as their best compilation from their previous by far.
The excellent cover of this release attracted many fans of other rock bands, one of them was me.
I heard a couple of songs from their most successful album Hysteria and I decided to buy this album without any doubt.
You can definitely call this one a definitive collection. Rock of Ages as everyone know is one of their first top 20 hits from their album Pyronania (1983), but also the title of this track can describe Def Leppard's music, from late 70's to 2006.
Disc 1, includes almost all their biggest hits, like Pour Some Sugar on Me, Photograph, Love Bites, Armageddon It and many others. On Disc 2 you can find songs from their latest releases [(Slang (1996), Euphoria (1999), X (2002)] but also you can find some of the last singles from their most successful albums that never achieved the success of their most known songs.
As a result of this, "Rock of Ages: The Definitive Collection", became Platinum in US selling more than 1 million copies in the short period of 10 months.
Free Music Review: GREATEST 80'S BAND OF ALL Hit: 5 Stars
yep, that's right the greatest. some might begg to differ but.. oh well. no other 80's band has done or gone through what these guy's have and still.. they keep on ticking. def leppard have paid their dues, more than once. this two disc collection is long overdue. with the exception of vault ( which was a one discer ) this release gives you more tracks for your money and.. it's remastered, which is what their individual albums need ( hint hint ). over all, the track selection is pretty good minus a few left off songs here and there but then i guess it would've taken more than two disc too get the songs that were left off. i recommend it, even though i have all the albums on disc, but if you're just starting out in the area of def leppard, this is a good place to start. where i live, they've been playing "no matter what" like crazy on the radio also, this collection debuted on the chart's at no. 9, so the lepp's may have ANOTHER hit on their hand's. i tip my hat to the guy's and say thanks for all the great music over the years and "rock rock(till you drop)".
Free Music Review: Finally, a true Def Leppard definitive collection. Hit: 5 Stars
Wow, this is a great collection. The previous attenpt at a greatest hits, "Vault", was actually very good. But Def Leppard should have considered that they had enough material, ideas and motive to come out with 4 albums after it. And there some very good songs on these newer albums. "Promises" is definately one of my favorite Def Leppard songs. This is a very good 2-disc set. It was the first De Leppard I bought, and is perfect for the casual fan, like I was. Of couse, you can easily make this album from just a few of the others, like Hysteria, Pyromania, Adrenalize, High 'N' Dry, and Euphoria. This is an incredible buy, and worth every penny. The one con I have on this album is that some of the songs aren't the originals, such as they were on "Vault". "Pour Some Sugar On Me" has its longer, video edit. I think the simple intro of "Step inside. Walk this way. You and me babe. Hey! Hey! was better. Anyways, like i said, you can build you're own if you're to worried about that. DEF LEPPARD ROCKS!
Free Music Review: Truly Def Leppards Greatest Hits Hit: 5 Stars
I wasn't completely satisfied with Def Leppard's Vault album because it was mostly concerned toward their Pyromania/Hysteria era. After I got this album I realized the impossible was very close to being possible. What a song list this album puts out. Disc 1 Contains all their radio friendly hits but disc 2 is what impresses me the most. It contains all their rockin songs that didn't have as much radio success or wasn't on the radio at all. Disc 2 contains songs mostly from their first two albums "On Through the Night" and "High and Dry" These albums contained Def Leppards most aggressive and gritty work before they started to become commericial. I have everyone of Def Leppards albums and I feel stupid for buying most of them only because all the songs I like by Def Leppard are on this album. This album is perfect for fair weather Def Leppard fans and the die hard ones. If you dont think so I really want to know why . Email me at born2die911@yahoo.com
Free Music Review: Brilliant! Hit: 5 Stars
I was NOT disappointed with my purchase here. There's a great selection of songs on here, showcasing the band's changing image over time. If there are particular songs that you like that aren't in this collection, I'd suggest you download them, or get them elsewhere, but definitely get this CD for the absolute best of Def Leppard. It contains great liner notes on each song, with input from each of the band members, something I particularly enjoyed. Getting these liner notes helped me understand a lot more about where the band was coming from on each song and what it truly meant to them to be writing and recording it. With this input on their take on lyrics and such, I daresay I understood the songs themselves better. It also includes pictures of the band over time, including Steve Clark (R.I.P.). Overall: Perfect for fans and those simply looking to get the best of this phenomenal band.
