Free Music Notes for XFree Music Review: Def Leppard Returns, Changed, But Still Awesome... Hit: 5 Stars
If your looking for another "Pyromania" or "Hysteria" your not going to find it here! But that ain't all a bad thing either! Def Lep has constantly changed their style from there hard rockin' roots of "On Through The Night" and "High N' Dry" to their melodic rock offerings "Pyromania" and "Hysteria", to alternative rock with "Slang". "X" is another evolution for them as they tackle pop-rock and it's all good. I'm more of a fan of Leppard's harder material and I was hoping for a real rocker before it came out, but when I got it, I was surprised, not only of the "lightness" of the record, but how much I really enjoyed it. Fans can complain (and they will) about Def Leppard changing their sound, but I think this LP is better then most of the junk plaguing the pop (and rock) airwaves and it contains some of the best songwritting the guys have done in years. Cuts such as "Now", "Everyday", "Four Letter Word", and "Torn To Shreds" absolutley rock, if you don't call those tunes catchy, there must be somethin' wrong with you! "Long Long Way To Go" is a beautiful ballad that could be a big hit. "Gravity", "Cry", "Scar" have a hard-edge mod-rock feel and show that Def Leppard can tackle any style and make it their own. I seriously don't feel there is a bad tune on this disc, you can listen to it straight though and it really grows on you after repeated listens which are signatures of a good LP. The bottom line is the boyz have changed, as they should. They (and a host of other 80's bands) have matured and don't need to write songs about Rockin' till they drop or pouring sugar on themselves and the fans should accept that and listen to something fresh and exciting.
Free Music Review: Be open-minded, not all change is bad! Hit: 5 Stars
I can hardly contain my anger with some of the negative reviews of this album. To all you negative reviewers, let's get something straight: Def Leppard is NOT a HEAVY METAL BAND. Never have been, never will be. Def Leppard is simply a rock band that appeals to the mainstream. Understand this when you listen to their music, especially the new album, "X". What I really don't get is how a number of people complain it doesn't sound like Pyromaina or Hysteria. Well, what do you expect them to sound like in the year 2002? Pyromania or Hysteria?? Do you really expect them to come out with the same ol' stuff? If they did, you'd be complaining "same ol', same ol'". Ever heard of a thing called CREATIVITY? PROGRESSION? GROWTH? MATURITY? ARTISTRY?. The fact that they have modernized their style a bit, doesn't make them "sellouts". The band believes in the music they are making, and as long as you believe in it yourself you are never a sellout. They don't live in a vaccum, they live in the same ever changing world as all of us. I have every Leppard album and "X" is trully a standout! I will always love their older style, AND I love their new direction too. IT'S ALL GOOD. All the songs on "X" are amazing. Songs like "Unbelievable", "You're so beautiful", and "Long long way to go" demand heavy rotation on the air waves. In a fair world, there would be at least 7 hit singles off this record. Unfortunately this probably won't happen because of all the narrow minded, short sighted people who won't give this album a chance. If you are a true fan, you will be hooked on this album for months. If you don't LOVE it, you are not a fan and you should not be submitting a review.
Free Music Review: X-cellent ! Hit: 5 Stars
Well I was a bit concerned before the release of X. First of all, Euphoria was a very good album after the slang incident. Many fans of the band were returning home especially after the chart buster ballad "promises" .How would be the following album to that ? Plus I did not like the cover , which was not too def leppardish with only B&W covers and a huge X. Were they gone mental or should we have prepared for slang 2? (slang was ok by the way in my opinion, a bold but failed attempt to capture the day's vibe) Well with the first chords that hit my stereo,I took a very deep breath and relaxed. Def leppard were back, doing what they do best and taking no chances. But band did not come with a copy of their 80's albums. X has some well placed bits of modern sound which makes this album also acceptable for young fans of melodic rock. Bands is thight as ever, production is business as usual and songs are excellent and sometimes better even in comparison to mighty euphoria. Make no mistake here . It is not another Hysteria. (by the way, every super band has its own one huge album not two !) But it is a very very good record .You can enjoy all the songs here without picking them one by one. This is the music which pumps one with positive energy, joy of life as well as strenght to face the world. Ofcourse, all pretentious mr and mrs big noses of q, nme, metal hammer and other magazines will dismiss this album. Dont let that put you off. Def leppard makes music for the fans of hard rock. They make music for the people not for the critics (bandwagon jumpers of tasteless bands).Albums like this really put a smile on your face no matter what. We do not have such bands in these days so make sure to get your copy. X is X-cellent !
Free Music Review: Pretty Good Album Hit: 5 Stars
Finally, after almost 10 years, Def Leppard found the sound that seemed to be lost. Awesome guitars and much better lyrics make of this their best album since Hysteria and Adrenalize. Joe Elliot's voice sounds pretty good this time (a little bit more of soul and depth than in their previous albums). If you liked songs like Hysteria, Love Bites, Have you Ever needed Someone so Bad and Pour Some Sugar on Me, this album will not dissapoint you. There are 5 Excellent songs: 1) Long Long Way to Go: Great music, and without any doubt the best piece of this album. Wonderful lyrics. A great song about how difficult is to forget someone that you really loved and all the pain we need to go through sometimes to finally understand that life goes on and love will be back (even though we won't forget that person). If you liked Love Bites, you'll love this one! 2) Four Letter Word: Classic Def Leppard, with excellent guitars. If you feel sad, this is a nice song to get your energy back. A different way to say I Love You. 3) You Are so beutiful: A song about the special little things that make you love somebody. Once Again...Excellent Guitars. 4) Unbelievable: Nice Guitars. Even though lyrics are pretty simple, you will love this song. 5) Scar: Nice lyrics and the best guitars from this album. Campbell and Collen made unbelievable rhythm changes...Strong riffs for the Chorus, and nice, smooth arppegios with the verses. As you had probaby seen, this is a great album for the people that love good guitars and care about songs that make us remind that even though love hurts sometimes, there is nothing that makes you feel more alive than giving away your heart to somebody unique and special. Good to have you back, Def Leppard!!
Free Music Review: X: One Of Def Leppard's Best Hit: 5 Stars
Wow! I heard bad things about X, but I wasn't discouraged. I decided to give it a go and it was excellent! Here's a review of the songs and ratings.
Now: 5 out of 5. A great song, listen to the words. Awesome start
to the CD, and a great solo.
Unbelievable: 5 out of 5. Normally I'd think this is a stupid
song, but I really like it actually.
You're So Beautiful: 5 out of 5. Great song, I just love it.
Everyday: 4 out of 5. Not the best song, but I still like it.
Long Long Way To Go: 5 out of 5. This is a great example of Def
Leppard caring about lyrics. This song just
is excellent. The line "Without love, what
is life?" is an example about how this song
actually has meaning to the lyrics.
Four Letter Word: 5 out of 5. A song like this is just so easy to
like. Perfectly set up.
Torn To Shreds: 5 out of 5. Slower, but still good
Love Don't Lie: 4 out of 5. Starting to get boring....
Gravity: 5 out of 5. Track #8 scared me. I thought it would be a
crappy CD from the rest on, but track #9 is great.
Cry: 4 out of 5. Not very great, but it's Def Leppard, so it's a
good tune. Who can complain?
Girl Like You: 4 out of 5. Ok, not the best song.
Let Me Be The One: 5 out of 5. Slow, but still great.
Scar: 5 out of 5. The intro is a highlight.
I have rated X to the best of my ability. I think this review will be helpful to those who are skeptical about buying X. I was at first, but I knew it would be good.
