Free Music Notes for XFree Music Review: A huge surprise, possibly a long time fan's favorite DL disc Hit: 5 Stars
I've been very disappointed with many of Def Leppards releases since Hysteria but have always gone through the motions of buying their merchandise in an attempt to support the band. Well, this one is DIFFERENT. As others have mentioned it's about 25% vintage hard rock Leppard .. however, as a musician myself I feel compelled to say that the remainder of this album contains what I believe is their strongest (and best) songwriting, ever. Yes, I am serious! The songs are very catchy, melodically and harmonically sophisticated and memorable. The lyrics, while not bad to these ears, are the largest weak spot on the album, and are not as diverse as the themes on previous albums (specifically Hysteria.) Everyone's got their own up and down love stories to relate to most of the songs on this album and that (to me) makes many of the songs more moving. It's really refreshing music. I'm glad to see the Lep boys branch off a little from what many fans expect, and it sounds like they had a lot of fun doing it. This is very good stuff -- buy it! I've been a fan of theirs for nearly 20 years and this one is easily in my top 3 favorite DL albums -- time will only tell if it hits #1 on my list.
Free Music Review: Not your older brother's Def Leppard Hit: 5 Stars
First of all, I need to qualify my five-star review. For what Def Leppard is now, which is a pop band, this album is five-stars. For what Def Leppard used to be, it's a two-star album. I'm 40 years old, and Def Leppard is my favorite band. Have been since the first time I saw the Photograph video on MTV 20 years ago. I've got every album, know the lyrics to every song, and at my advanced age, still air-guitar every riff. I bought X hoping that it would rock out more than Euphoria did. After listening to it one time, I was ready to resell it for $5. But because it was my boys, I gave it another chance. And got hooked. Hooked on the familiar strains and melodies. I've just come to grips with the fact that Def Leppard is a different band than the one that blasted "Wasted", "Let it Go", and "Don't Shoot Shotgun". Once you accept the direction they've taken, it's a little easier to lament the fact that Phil and Vivian don't get much of a chance to show off their virtuosity (you just about have to wait till the last part of "Scars" to hear them wail). This is Joe's band. He's the quarterback and the head coach, and we have to accept the fact that this album represents the new gameplan.

Free Music Review: X (Ten) Puts Leppard Back on the Charts Hit: 5 Stars
Def Leppard are back and better than ever. With X (Ten) we hear how much their music has matured, but it still has the rock 'til you drop sound of the old Def Leppard we've known since 1981. As would be expected, X contains some toe-tappin', head-noddin' rockers such as Gravity and Torn to Shreds. Plus, Leppard are the king's of rock ballads, and X doesn't disappoint. Long Long Way To Go is destined to take it's place among Bringin' on the Heartbreak, Hysteria and Love Bites as a classic Leppard love song. Long Long Way also highlights singer Joe Elliott's voice, which seems to have actually improved some since Euphoria. X can't really be categorized. It's a bit of Pyromania, a dash of Euphoria, a pinch of Slang and a lot that's just new. What most pleased me is that Leppard's lyrics seem to be more inspired than before. My only complaint is that a couple of the songs sound a little too much alike. Other than that, X is an excellent example of why Def Leppard were considered the pioneers of melodic metal, and will always be one of the greatest bands in rock and roll.
Free Music Review: Screw all the Leppard bashers! X is full of melodic hooks! Hit: 5 Stars
For all those who whine and complain about X not being another Pyro or Hard and Dry; get over it.This is 2002.Sure it would have been cool to hear some thundering guitar riffs all over X.But cool guitar riffs is not the only thing that makes Def Leppard great.X is full of melodic hooks that seem to get better with repeated listens.Long Long Way to Go will be the song that brings Def Leppard back to platinum status if radio and MTV play it.It has a vey cool flameco guitar intro and a soaring chorus.Torn to Shreds which should have been the first single is full of rock guitars riffs. You're So Beautiful is such an upbeat cathcy track you won't be able to help tapping your foot. While X is full of melodic pop rock tracks like Everyday & Unbelivable; it also has some hard rock tracks with catchy guitar riffs like the ACDC meets Black Crowes sounding Four Letter Word,Cry and Scar. The only track I felt was just plain annoying and doesn't really fit on X is the funk soul r&bish Gravity. All in all X is a very well produced melodic album full on Leppard hooks.Get it and enjoy.
