Free Music Notes for White PonyFree Music Review: White Pony, a promising album Hit: 5 Stars
There are certain people who wrote reviews for this album that completely ripped it apart and only gave it one star. It's easy to tear it apart when you don't even understand it. One reviewer wrote that the song "pink maggit" was just a cliche song that many bands tackle, dealing with the agony of High School long after they are out of school. The person wrote that review didn't understand Chino's real feelings behind the song. I read an interview one time with Chino where explained how he wrote that song to sort of goof on all the other bands who whine about High School, on purpose. He said that with that song, he wanted to paint a picture of being lifted up on people's shoulder's at school like he was some high-school heroe. He was going for painting an image that was very corny on purpose. It's a good song and witty, if you think of the irony.anyways, the deftones are one of my favorite bands and show definate maturity on this album instead of conforming to the rest of the "nu-metal" hybrids out there. THis is one of the best album's i own. I love the lyrics and how metephorical they get. They're cryptic and mysterious, yet poetic, not empty like other bands. Digital Bath is my favorite track on the CD and probably the best simple four minute single i have ever heard. Yes, it was released as a single, but you will never hear another song like this. If you life your music mature and different, i would recommend this CD.
Free Music Review: This album is truly a work of ART Hit: 5 Stars
The deftones have come a long way since adrenaline, and over the years they have surpassed numerous metal bands in almost every way (vocals, drums, bass, lyrics, etc.). Deftones are beyond Korn, Slipknot, Metallica, and RAGE. Chino Moreno's voice is the future for heavy metal/alternative bands. He can sing, rap, scream, and make his voice turn all crazy and still make it sound melodic. The drummer (Abe Cunningham) is vital to the band and makes every beat sound intense and filled with aggression and feeling. Chi Cheng's bass skills and Stephen Carpenters's strings are even more so awe-inspiring and add to the overall eminence of the WHITE PONY...and also, DJ Frank Delgado blends in very well with the band. Even though this band does not get much airplay, it's due to special reasons. The WHITE PONY is simply a masterpiece. Playing it on the radio would ruin its quality, and degrade the overall greatness. It is too damn complex, intricate, and devilishly amazing to be put out on radio. The full effect and affection of this album can be witnessed by just listening it on high quality CD sound. The WHITE PONY will always be revered as the best metal album of the future. This is one great band and they're way up there with Radiohead. Deftones is all about music and art, and it shows through all of their songs(especially digital bath and korea). No other band can compare to what these guys have accomplished...JUST BUY THE WHITE PONY.
Free Music Review: My Favorite cd ever... Hit: 5 Stars
...well next to Around the Fur and Aenema (TooL). Granted I have the silver copy that has no Back to School, but never the less this cd conveys more of an angelical emotion than Adrenaline or ATF. It's funny, I have never seen them on any countdowns or top this or that, but anyone who has heard their music that I have met loves the band. There is no comparison between the Deftones and any other 'nu-metal' bands or otherwise. As far as the songs go, to me the cd hits an apex at "Change". It has always been to me kinda straight-forward what he was saying lyrically and the music is just dark enough to set the mood without becoming cheesy. Really though, the entire cd blasts with creativity and a feel that they play a style of music that always feels 'new'. No songs are reptitive but all are amazing, Feiticeira is particuarly great because of the fact that there is no chorus to the song (something that will never happen in most music, in fear that the song might be otherwise forgetble if there is no hook to stay in your head for days.) Overall this is the 2nd best, but only by a slim margin to ATF. If you don't own this yet I would DEFINATELY get the re-released version because Back to School is VERY good (with a cool video too). Or if possible to do what I did and get the red version as well(extra track being The Boy's Republic).
Free Music Review: If you Enter The White Pony you will never return! Hit: 5 Stars
I have to say Deftones have been my favorite band for a very long time but even i wouldn't expect them to churn out something this excellent. This album singlehandely in my opinion showed that this band can do whatever the hell they want and all the other bands are going to have to work alot harder when they around, and this band isn't going anywhere. The band kicks in with "Feiticeira" and just let loose. Then what has to be one of my favorite songs ever "Digital Bath" the song is so beautiful and it just enthralls you into the sound and make you believe you are living the song and that is what i love about this band. They can play some of the most heaviest sonic blasts ("Elite","Korea") but at the same time some truly beautiful music ("Teenager","RX Queen"). I think the other standout tracks have to be "Knife Prty" which is more reminscent of Jane's Addiction then Limp Bizkit (no offense to Fred and the boys), and "Passenger" which features the guest vocals of Maynard James Keenan of Tool/A Perfect Circle and aids the perfect amount of atmosphere to the track. This is something any fan of music should own (just excuse the first track)and if you don't own it already this is your wake up call.
Free Music Review: Great Step for the Deftones Hit: 5 Stars
With the deftones third album, "White Pony", the band takes a different approach to their music. Usually when a band does this their album ends up [being bad]. Not this one tho. Even tho the songs on this cd are slower, they are just as good, if not even better, than those from the previous two albums. White Pony is a very moody album, with dark, haunting lyrics, accompanied by the equally dark and haunting voice of Chino Moreno. Stephen' guitar surges through the whole album, mixed with Chi's bass, Abe's amazing drumming, and especially Frank's turntable samples, to create a very moody and eerie atmosphere that will be sure to interest the listener the whole time through. Tracks like "Digital Bath", "Knife Party", and "Passenger"(one of my favorites) showcase this quality. But dont assume the whole cd is made up of mellowed-out songs. There are heavy ones like "Street Carp", "Elite", and "Korea"(the hardest song on the album) that show the deftones can still rock. So if you good alternative metal that is intriguing and just awesome at the same time, make sure to check out this cd. Im also looking foward the release of their new (fourth)album, which is rumored to be the heaviest of all their albums...
