Free Music Notes for Delaney & Bonnie On Tour With Eric ClaptonFree Music Review: The Best Delaney & Bonnie to Have & to Hold Hit: 5 Stars
I've listened to this album off & on for over 30 years and it really is the relatively unknown and unrecognized gem that other reviewers say it is. When it was transferred from vinyl to cd I thought there was a terrible drop-off of Clapton's fantastic guitar work. Actually tossed the cd out & stuck with a tape I'd made from the original lp. Anyway, I was about to get the tape transferred to CD by one of the better transfer companies (hint, in Pittsburgh) but wanted to make sure the tape was really superior to the cd. So I bought another cd from amazon, listened exhaustively to both it and my old tape and decided the cd was just fine. Not sure what happened, but I'd take a prior reviewer's criticism of the quality of the cd with a grain of salt and go ahead and buy it. Then listen...you'll be just as happy as the other reviewers who rave about this album.
Free Music Review: A Missing Link Album! Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of those albums that puts other all-time favorites in perspective. It was a pivotal time for Clapton, who, coming from his brief Blind Faith experiment, was overwhelmed by superstar expectations. This tour allowed him to regroup as "one of the band" and, as another reviewer noted, continue with Carl Radle, Jim Gordon, and Bobby Whitlock as Derek & the Dominoes, where he was once again the lone soloist. Dave Mason, even though on the album he is introduced as a member of Traffic, was more or less split from them and in the process of playing with everybody who asked. Also, Carl Radle appears on some of Dave's solo stuff. Overall, this is a rippin' band that is obviously having fun. "Comin' Home" is my personal favorite, but I find myself listening to this one over and over and over. . .
Free Music Review: A Must-have additon to anyone's music library Hit: 5 Stars
This recording is positively alive with supercharged energy. It is not only brimming with fine performances from many of the hottest musicians of the time; it serves as proof-positive that white kids can, indeed, superbly play blues and soul music. It captures the raw energy of the ensemble performances of the (then) husband-wife team of Delaney and Bonnie Bramblett, and the exceptional backing musicians who would eventually turn up on the albums of countless other stars for another 20 or more years.
Put it in, turn it on, crank it up, and shake your booty to every tune on the CD (you can't resist going dance crazy, anyway). Don't let this one get by you. Get it while it's still in print.
Free Music Review: BEST Driving R&R of ALL times! Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this album while I was in Japan in 1970. The ONLY reason I bought it was because I wanted to get something and it said "With Eric Clapton". Never heard of D&B before. When I got it back home I read the back of the album, to see who was on it and I was floored! I put it on the turntable (You remember them?) the first time that night when a bunch of friends came over. It was the ONLY album we played that night! And from then on it got played at least once a night when ever anyone came over. 5 years ago I told a friend about it and the rave started all over. If you get this album be prepared to put all your others away for a while.
Free Music Review: Delaney & Bonnie & Friends on Tour with Eric Clapton (Live) Hit: 5 Stars
Good Lord--this is the closest thing to spontaneous human combustion that may ever be captured on disc! Delaney's high-wire vocal acrobatics and hell-for-leather "follow me!" charges are absolutely inspiring, and Bonnie sings with enough vitality to rip down a brick wall with her bare hands. This also includes the raging fires that Eric tosses out, as well as the tornado whirlwinds fueled by Jim Gordon and Jim Keltner on drums, Carl Radle on bass, and Bobby Whitlock's keyboards. The horn section could blast down the walls of Jericho. This is an absolute must-have: throw away the vitamins and get this if you need an energy rush!!
