Free Music Review: Depeche Mode - 1981-2006.
Hit: 4 Stars

"Best of Depeche Mode Volume 1" is the fourth hits compilation from the Basildon quartet-turned-trio, but it's the first to cover their entire 25 year recording history. With the exception of "Black Celebration," the CD samples every studio album in their catalogue, with an unrelased track "Martyr," recorded during the "Playing the Angel" sessions. The bonus DVD has a collection of their music videos, though it does make a few omissions (including 1982's "See You"). There's also a documentary featuring the band along with management, producers, and former members Vince Clarke and Alan Wilder. Those who own the recently released CD/DVD reissues will recognize this clip, as it features interviews also used for the documentaries included in the CD/DVD reissues. This hits collection isn't flawless (no "Question of Time"), but for a single-disc collection, you can't go wrong with "Best of Depeche Mode Volume 1."

Free Music Review: I love it but...
Hit: 4 Stars

Other reviewers have pointed this out, and I agree. How can you have a Depeche Mode compilation and leave out Policy of Truth ?? Oh... I didn't read the fine print. This is VOLUME 1. Guess I'll have to wait until Volume 2 comes out to get my Policy of Truth fix. Or else just buy it from iTunes.

Other that that, I am very happy with this CD/DVD.

Free Music Review: Oops! Not Quite the Best of...
Hit: 3 Stars

No "Policy of Truth"????? No Best of Depeche Mode.

Free Music Review: BEST OF????? NOT ENTIRELY TRUE
Hit: 1 Stars

As a long standing fan of DM, I truly think this compilation was not needed. Why do we need yet another greatest hits collection? This collection does span their career thus far, however, it is missing a lot of their "best songs" including: Policy Of Truth, But Not Tonight, Sun And The Rainfall, Told You So, Lie To Me, Here Is The House, Fly On The Windscreen, Nodisco, My Secret Garden. I guess the boys from basildon needed $$$$$$. This is a good collection for the casual fan or the completist, but definitely not worth the money for the die hard. I think DM could put together an album of strictly album tracks (non singles) and it would sell like hotcakes.....
