Free Music Notes for The Singles 86>98Free Music Review: My Favorite CD(s) Hit: 5 Stars
Depeche Mode are like the most moving band of souls to me, they make music I understand and can also make me wonder far off. They put together some of my favorite songs from some of my faovrite CDs of them and made something extraordinary. Although I like the newer singles of theirs more than the older ones, I also really think another essential CD is the older collection of greatest hits. Depeche Mode were a great band that molded together dream pop, synth, goth, and alternative better than anyone else who even tried. Most of the public may have only heard Personal Jesus (still a great song), but there are better songs underneath, such as In Your Room. Buying this will be a hugely smart decision, because these are all songs that are worth more than only five stars. I agree with Matt Ruckman, Depeche Mode are quite possibly the greatest band of all time, forget the Beatles. Martin Gore is an excellent songwriter, and you can really tell here. Plus, this CD has some of the best cover art I have ever seen, I'm not really sure what everything is in the photograph, but I think it is one of the best photos I have ever seen. A rally good buy.
Free Music Review: Great beginner cd for those unfamiliar Hit: 5 Stars
I really have to say that I love this album, and it's really refreshing to listen to this instead of that new crap on Exciter. The first cd in the album definitely dominates the second half, but even with that said it is well worth the purchase. "A Question of Time" is really bouncy and instantly sparked a "let's dance" feeling with me. That's impressive 'cause I don't dance. It soon follows up with another nice track, "Strangelove" and by then you find yourself practically lost in the music. Number 6, "Behind The Wheel" is without a doubt my favorite track. It has kind of a low frequency mystery sound to it that always leads me into some sort of mischief. Then it picks back up with "Personal Jesus". It's too bad they sandwiched it between "Behind the Wheel" and "Enjoy the Silence" because I almost always find myself impatiently skipping over it because of the meaning in "Enjoy the Silence". Like I said before, the 2nd cd definitely doesn't deliver the heap of satisfaction you recieve from the first, but there are several tracks on it that deserved to be on the singles collection. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!!
Free Music Review: Excellent! Hit: 5 Stars
During the mid-90's Depeche Mode was played on MTV with songs from "Ultra". During that time I wasn't much into that music. Guns 'N' Roses and Metallica dominated my taste in music. I wasn't impressed by "It's no good" and the other songs that were being played. Not even in '98 or '99 when a working mate played their music at the office. It wasn't until '01 when a friend of mine said she liked DM, and I asked what songs she recommended, since I thought I'd give them another try (my taste in music changes and widens). Her answer was "Strangelove" and "Policy of Truth". Somehow, I instantly loved it from the first moment and throughout the song. And that's how it was. After that I had to get as much as possible by DM. "A question of time", "Strangelove", "Personal Jesus", "Enjoy the silence", "Everything counts", etc etc... I think this CD is a good start for beginners to their music. True, it can be dark sometimes, but it can also be the complete opposite, Their lyrics is always good, Gahan's song is great... Listen to this. I also recommend their "101" CD.

The Singles 86>98
Of course in a DM greatest hits album you would have Personal Jesus, It's No Good, I Feel You and Never Let Me Down Again, but to hear Walking in My Shoes,
In Your Room, and Enjoy the Silence makes my day.
This is the kind of album that you can play while driving, while walking down the street. while working out, or while cleaning your apartment. Now I mean that in a good way. It puts you in an energetic mood, and sing-songing away while you work is a great way to get things done. In that way, you can think of this as a motivational album, LOL.
I don't think this is for sitting around the house though. There are better albums for contemplation...:)
The "81-84 singles compilation" is also great, and in a similar vein. If you are a fan, this is a great addition to your collection, and hearing hit after hit, back to back really reminds you of how good DM is.
Free Music Review: One of the best albums I've heard in a long time Hit: 5 Stars
For some odd reason which I cannot resolve, I got a small taste of Depeche Mode a long time ago and ever since, I have had a craving for DM that could prove insatiable if I do not hear at least one single everyday. When I bought this album, I got it strictly because of a few singles I had heard before and wanted to own for good. As I started to progressively listen to the rest of Disc One and then venturing off to Disc 2, I was surprised at how real DM's message was in their songs. My friends think I am demented and need help because I love this band so much and I am only 20 years old (not the typical audience for this kind of music). I found myself listening to songs like "In Your Room", "Strangelove", "Enjoy the Silence", "Stripped", "The World in My Eyes" and many more. My suggestion to those who would like to downplay this album simply because it is produced by a band named Depeche Mode is to listen to just one or two singles and figure out what message Martin Gore is trying to portray. You be the judge. A++
