Free Music Notes for The Singles 86>98Free Music Review: Essential DM Hit: 5 Stars
I first purchased this album on double-length cassette when it came out almost ten years ago and it's still one of my favorites. This great compilation covers the albums "Black Celebration" through "Ultra". Even if you had all five of them, this is still an essential collection. Some of the tracks here are different from the original album versions. One noteworthy omission was "But Not Tonight" which in the US was flipped with the "Stripped" single. There's one previously unreleased track, "Only When I Lose Myself". "Little 15" from "Music For The Masses" seems a little out of place near the end of the collection but it was only released as a single in France. The album ends with a live version of "Everything Counts" from the 1989 live "101".
Whether you're a die hard fan or just a casual one, this will be a great addition. It's a true testament to their longevity. The first disc runs just under 42 minutes the second 55 1/2 minutes.
Free Music Review: My musical tastes are unique, but I know good music! Hit: 5 Stars
The 1st time I heard of Depeche Mode, I was young and living in Europe. My older cousin had People are People on a lp single. (Man, I feel old now.) I loved it then because it matched my own sentiments, even in my youth. Flash forward to several years and albums (and countries)later, I find that their music still matches my sentiments. This is a great collection of Depeche music. I can't name a favorite song, they are all great. Many have darker themes and arouse some feelings of melancholy, but this is not EMO music. This is music to make you feel and think. If you are a fan of this group and have many of their cd's, this is still a good buy. I keep this collection in my cd changer at all times, and get funny looks when it has Jay Z and D.J.Screw next to it. But like I said, my tastes are unique, I don't hear differing genre's, I hear peoples feelings flow through their music. And Depeche will make you feel. Sadness, anger, pity, and joy.
Free Music Review: I "Just Can't Get Enough" of my Depeche Mode singles! Hit: 5 Stars
Yes, yes, I know that it's a single from "'81-'85", but it's rather appropriate nonetheless. I had known about some of Depeche Mode's singles from '90 to '93", them being "Enjoy The Silence", "Policy Of Truth", and "Walking In My Shoes" that I remember from the radio. My other favorites are the eerie "Stripped", both "A Question Of Lust" and "Time", "Strangelove", "Behind The Wheel", "Personal Jesus", "World In My Eyes", "I Feel You", "In Your Room", "Barrel Of A Gun" and the new track for this collection "Only When I Lose Myself". It might have something to do with the fact that I'm half-German, and in an MTV interview with Rammstein, they confirmed that Depeche Mode's music was always popular in Germany. These singles are all very cool, indeed. Get this album today!
Free Music Review: BEST BAND ON EARTH !!! Hit: 5 Stars
Every Techno-Pop-Rock lover can not doubt about purchasing this masterpiece. The first work of DM that I heard was 101 in 1990 and I got shocked. After that,I bought everyone of their albums and I became a convinced fan...The good thing about "The Singles 86-98" is that you can find in it different versions of the songs included in their previous albums, like "A Question Of Time", "Strangelove" or "In Your Room".And about the new song,"Only When I Lose Myself",is definitely the deepest and emotional song that they have written in the last years, and its sound is quite impressive...Obviously,DM is not the same without Alan Wilder but they can still play excellent music. When I knew that Depeche Mode was playing in Miami,I didn't think twice...I got a break, took a plane, and captured them live...A dream become true...A whole experience..."The Singles..." is a must!!!
Free Music Review: get right with mode Hit: 5 Stars
This is an excellent collection from the kings of gloom synth-pop. The two-CD set includes the popular tunes such as "Question of Lust," "Personal Jesus," "Enjoy the Silence" and "World in My Eyes." It also includes some of the lesser-known gems of the Faith and Devotion album, such as "Condemnation" and "I Feel You." For all the criticism that DM takes, what music would you rather have playing when the world seems bleak and you feel isolated? But it's not all gloom, DM made some of the most danceable, smart, well-crafted dance-techno-industrial music of the last 15 years. For DM fans, this is a great collection to have in the car or to take on a plane, when you want to hear the hits. For those who aren't quite sure about buying "Violator" or "Faith and Devotion," this is a very good "intro-to-Mode" collection.
