Free Music Notes for The Singles 86>98Free Music Review: nice companion to Catching Up with Depeche Mode Hit: 5 Stars
Depeche Mode have never left me down(no pun intended). Each album uniquely brilliant. This collection however show a more daring and maturing DM.There are some omissions, though not official DM single releases should be on the collection-But not Tonight,Nothing(edit) and Death Door.Nothing was released with Strange Love as the A-side/maxisingle and the other two were on sound tracks. Two of the most striking songs on the album is I feel you and Barrrel of Gun show a more rock side to DM and the new song is the next logical step.If you are new to DM,grab this collection. If you been there for the long haul, grab it as a time saver most of the great songs are here plus a new one(I was hoping for four new ones like catching up but since they are touring I'll forgive em' )
Free Music Review: Catching Up - Part 2 Hit: 5 Stars
Can a band let too much time go by before putting out a chronicle of their historical importance? Every song on this collection is an phenomenal track. Each minute is worth every dime spent. But, to call it a singles collection might be inaccurate. Songs like "Nothing", "But Not Tonight" and even the remake "Route 66" are missing. Would this have happened if this came out earlier. Possibly not. Even with those few problems - this collection is a timepiece. These songs catalog a chart history for a band that is only getting better. Here on two discs the world is allowed a few hours to catch up with a band that is far ahead of it's own time. I just hope time doesn't keep us from another future singles collection.
Free Music Review: Bloody essential. Hit: 5 Stars
Well our time here is far too short to go into all of the great songs found here in this collection. Let me say that DM have made some of the most over-looked music ever. Sure, they have a large die-hard fanbase, sure their first releases were a little daft, but no one ever says anything to the sheer brilliance of some of their songs. Even the WAY-UNDERRATED "Ultra" stuff is here, complimenting the last 12 years of the band. Was I there the whole twelve years? No. Should've I been? Most definitely. DM's albums like Violater and Music for the Masses, will always be welcomed into any CD player, years and years from now, and so will this collection. This is a very, very strong group of electro-pop based masterpieces that no-one should be without.

This double c.d. just goes to prove that for a period of 13 years Depeche Mode went on to become one the biggest and best bands in the world. The tracks for this best of album have been taken off 5 albums and no one album dominates. This also goes to prove that Mode made very consistent c.d.'s-each one was capable of providing the group with 3/4 stand out tracks. My own favourites are from their best known album Violator.Personal Jesus and Enjoy The Silence showed that Mode had gone on to show they had a harder edge as well as never forgetting thier pop origins. In fact it also means that Mode know there is no point in simpl being alternative unless the listener has something to hum along to.I hope they continue to make more great music long into this century.
Free Music Review: Electronic pleasures Hit: 5 Stars
What am i supposed to say here? I have been a fan of the band since i was 14... They got better and better with each release. All of the tracks included here were big hits in europe (STRANGELOVE) and some of them hits worldwide (ENJOY THE SILENCE). Some are real experimental stuff (BARREL OF A GUN) while others are radio friendly tunes (IT'S NO GOOD). They can give back the concert live emotional feedback (EVERYTHING COUNTS LIVE) or are expected to be listened to in a stereophonical headset ambient (WALKING IN MY SHOES). Even if they use harsh electronic rhythms at times (I FEEL YOU), they can be soothing the others (A QUESTION OF LUST). One thing i sure..Depeche Mode will never let you down!
