Free Music Review: A new dog does an old trick
Hit: 4 Stars

At first, I was angry that this album was nothing like Saints.

Then I actually listened to it. The vocalist really drives the point home that he is a real singer. He's really good! His vocal quality doesn't soar through any roofs, but the quality is very good and impressively consistent. The lyrics have a few slack moments, but in large part they really do this effort justice.

What I love about this album is the the atmosphere that the sound creates. The band keeps things relatively aggressive even amidst all the melody and smooth-flowing delivery. They do that mainly through the fresh, creative rhythms and strong drum performance.

I commend the band for this effort. Very good work. I'll be looking for more aggression next time around, but I have absolutely no resentment toward this one.

Free Music Review: Refreshing, But Nothing New
Hit: 3 Stars

I've never really gotten into Destroy the Runner in the past, but I was drawn in by the couple songs that I heard on their myspace and some good words from my friends.

After I listened to the album all the way through I decided that they have a little flair that separates them from other melodic/hardcore bands. I believe that how the singer chooses to sing on the lower end of his vocal range is very interesting and unique. Good for him.

It's a solid album. I've heard lots of bands from the genre and they're not breaking new ground, but it's apparent that they're good at what they do.

Free Music Review: Different is Good
Hit: 5 Stars

I cant get enough of this album. There might not be as much screaming in this one compared to the last but it is just as inspiring, motivating, and entertaining. I got this album the first day it came out and i'm still not bored of it. If you like heavy chords with melodic singing and occasional screaming, youll like this album!!

Free Music Review: Very solid album, they go their own way
Hit: 4 Stars

I am probably one of the few to review this item who was introduced to this band with this album. I have no basis for comparison to previous albums but I love this bands sound. The only reason they lose a star is because the songs are not as consistent as on great albums but still, these guys have their own thing. I personally like the fact that the first song on this album is the heavisest in terms of screaming because the message in this song is very powerful, and makes it contrast to the songs with less screaming. I would have to agree that the drumming on the album is top motch and the lead singer is very talented. These guys take a step up from the traditonal "scream during the verse and sing during the chorus" formula that many bands seem to adhere to. They sound like they are more interested in making music their way, and to me it really shows. If these guys keep moving onward and upward we can expect to hear amazing things from this band. Great album.

Free Music Review: They've evolved and it works!
Hit: 5 Stars

Its sad that the metalcore fans view Destroy the Runner's evolution as going "emopop". Sure I Lucifer is a more melodic album that definitely leans to emo - its a shift from their Saints album we all love. But judge it on its merits not your hunger for more of the same. Kudos to M. Walton for a thorough and well balanced review of this album. Tthis album is a valient and largely successful attempt to evolve the band's sound, explore new options and still provide the heavy, hard driving foundation that brought the fans to the Saints. As with was the case with Saints, huge kudos to drummer Marc Kohlbry who really is the backbone of all that is great about Destroy the Runner.
