Free Music Notes for Metalocalypse: Dethalbum

Free Music Review: just hilarious
Hit: 4 Stars

There is a type of parody of modern culture that is only screamingly obvious after its hole has been filled. It is an august assemblage of artists that have ever created such: Rob Reiner, The Monty Python troupe, Christopher Baron Haden-Guest, Michael O'Donoghue.

Add Brendon Small to that list.

Dethalbum, by Dethklok is locked-on-target genius.

This album is a direct descendant of "Break Like the Wind" of Spinal Tap, but for both fans of and those who detest death metal (like myself) but are familiar with the genre, this is side-splitting laughter.

I won't spoil the effect of the delights of discovering the hilarious lyrics, and the homage and rip-off flattery of the shredding here (if Small did this work, he is quite technically skilled). Probably not a helpful review, but at some point you have to trust me on this. These are as good as the songs from National Lampoon's Radio Hour and Richard Cheese in faithfulness to genre and dead-on parody.

Now I'm going to go listen to "Briefcase Full of Guts" again.

Free Music Review: Brendon Small Rocks
Hit: 4 Stars

I think the show Metalacolypse is a riot. Its this generations' Spinal Tap. I love the whole concept of the show. Even without considering that the show is a total goof on all things metal and that the lyrics are way over the top, the Dethalbum is a hell of an album. Brendon Small is very talented since he plays most of the instruments himself, wrote all the songs, and does all the vocals as well. Normally I don't like death metal mainly because of the vocals but I can understand most of what he says even without reading the lyrics. The vocals fit the style of the music and the mood of the show. He put together an album that not only rocks but is hysterical. I defy anyone not to laugh after they read/hear the lyrics to "Fansong" and "Face Fisted". I almost cramped up from laughing so hard. If you want to hear a solid death metal album this one delivers or if you want to just laugh your butt off your covered too. It rocks without being serious and that is pretty rare. I just hope he does another one.

Free Music Review: Saturday Morning Cartoon Metal
Hit: 4 Stars

Metalocalypse is the show/cartoon that reminds of saturday morning when I was a kid...more like if saturday morning went to hell on on an acid trip. I FUXING love Metalocalypse!!!Much respect to Brendon Small. I have been waiting for this album to come out/It's arrival is way overdue... Tight Riffs/Great Metal!!! They should have added Dr. Roxxo/the rock and roll Clown's (He does alot of cocaine song)that would have been cool for laughs...also the songs that did make it to the album sound a little different than the show versions/but not in a bad way...or maybe it is just me...oh well, enough of my chatter...I am not going to tell you to "buy this cd." If you are a fan of Metalocalypse...and a fan of metal...use your own judgment...P.S. xtra (on) above was intentional/thank you for your time

Free Music Review: Great metal album
Hit: 4 Stars

I love metalocalypse, and I loved this album. It was great to hear all the songs in their entirety, and the fact that 1 guy played all the instruments except for the drums. This is one of the greatest metal albums of all time, the only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is the fact that I have the "deluxe" edition, and that version is deserving of 5 out of 5 stars, as well as the extra $$$ to get it. If you're a fan of Metalocalyse, I'd highly advise you to go out to the nearest Best Buy of Frys and get the deluxe edition of this album.

Free Music Review: There's something that I love about this CD:
Hit: 4 Stars

I was just listening to this again after finding it in my CD collection and I can't wait for a sequel even if it's just a CD only and I've heard that they may be working on a followup, in my opinion this is some of the best death metal that I've ever heard, the guitar runs are incredible in spots and I love that sort of gutteral growl that the lyricist does. This is comparable to the CD Demigod by Behemoth. But this is a chunkier sounding version.
