Free Music Review: Actual Dethalbum: Deluxe Edition Review
Hit: 3 Stars

Let's make this clear, I love Dethklok. I also love Metal. With that being said, it is only fair to review this as an album from the "band" Dethklok rather than to glorify the great series which it is. This review will target only the contents of the album and not the Adult Swim show.

The Dethalbum: Deluxe Edition is a rare find. I ordered mine direct from the manufacturer and STILL had problems getting my copy! What relief when three weeks later I receive my deluxe copy. As most know, the Dethalbum features full/reworked songs from the show rather than the "fade out clips" from the show. The overall result is sadly a mixed bag, some great songs like Birthday Deathday and Fansong seem slower and muddier, while Thunderhorse and Awaken are pure excellence.

Many of the album's song are surprisingly slow in the guitar department, while the drums are pounding and unrelenting. Nathan's voice is overall awesome, but some songs are either ruined by his voice/lyrics (Face Fisted, Go Forth, Murdertrain) or guitar (Fansong, Murmaider). The solos are pretty cool, especially the slightly retooled Duncan Hills and Thunderhorse. Go into the Water has an epic riff that is pure classic!

The Deluxe edition, despite it's glamor, is really a joke, only 3 (or 4) of the 7 "songs" can be taken seriously, with Murdertrain having many voices in the background which were not present in the previous disc, which distract the song, which really isn't that great to begin with. Blood Ocean is promising but becomes uninteresting rather quickly. Pickles Intro is simply a skit where Nathan asks Pickles to sing the next song, a Snakes n Barrels song "Kill You", a silly 80s rock song with a girly voiced Pickles singing. It's alright but WAY out of place, although rather humorous...and catchy...lol. Hatredy is another favorite of mine that was slowed down from it's original incarnation. It is still cool but why is it so slow? Dethklok gets in Tune is a...I'm sorry, a not very funny skit where the band helps Skwisgar tune his guitar. The extras on this disc include the video for Bloodrocuted (which is available online) and the first episode of season two (which will be available next year on DVD). What bonuses! /sarcasm

Songs such as "Crush your Battle Opponent's Balls", "Inner Child Tied and Beaten...", "Underwater Friends" and "I'm Just a Rock n Roll Clown" would have been great additions on the deluxe disc. With only 5 actual songs, it's a shame because it's not really worth the trouble just for the classic, Duncan Hills or Blood Ocean and Hatredy, but all Dethklok fans will get this version anyways.

Overall, my review was critical, but I was hoping for something more than what I got. The Dethalbum was somewhat slow, repetitive, lacked most of the show's humor and missed some great songs in place of unnecessary or sub par efforts. I can't say this album stacks up against actual releases of the year either, unlike what many are saying. Perhaps I'm wanting to much from this album and looking beyond the comedic value. Consider this though, should a full album from any band be viewed as a joke or a piece of music?

Free Music Review: Before you spend ALOT OF CASH
Hit: 3 Stars

The company has confirmed themselves that more special edition cds are on the way. So don't go shelling out stupid amounts of cash for one. I was disapointed in the 2nd disc anyways. Alot of people are saying it's awesome just to make those who didn't get it, feel left out. Well, disc 2 isn't that great. Blood Ocean is about the only great track, then the rest is good songs that go downhill fast. I love the show, and the CD. I couldn't wait to hear murder-train a comin. It is slowed down to the point where all effect is lost, then to top it off it goes into annoying dialog complete with mashed potatos johnson teling the boys how to play them blues. Just hold out for the next run of discs if you still must have it.

Free Music Review: NOT WHAT I"D EXPECT FROM THE 12th LARGEST ECONOMY IN THE WORLD
Hit: 2 Stars

Disappointment. That's the first thing that hit me, the bitter ammonia stink of it ruined what I had looked forward to so much. Foremost in my gripe is the drums. The songs on the show have fast double bass programmed drums, so naturally when i heard they tapped Gene Hoglan (ex Dark Angel, Death, Old Man's Child, Testament, Strapping Young Lad etc.) I was certain that the excellent musicality of the 2, playing very heavy, fast brutal death metal with gory, humorous lyrics, I was certain this was going to be the album of the year, maybe one for the records.
The feeling of the songs have changed, most of the drum footwork was so unremarkable, that it could have been anyone playing those drums. Gene Hoglan has a distinctive reputation for quick and ambidextrous drumming, so I feel that not only was he wasted on this project, but it bringsdown the project as a whole.
Some of the best (read: BRUTAL) songs were left off the album and put on a 2nd disc, for whatever reason. Murdertrain a Comin' is excellent and the solo on Duncan Hills is phenomenal. Track listing is pretty lame, so I copied someone elses and made my own Dethalbum.
I don't know what happened but Brandon, please dont make the same mistake on the nesxt one. I love the show and the songs, but feel very let down. I was looking forward to buying this. It's sad to say Im glad I didn't.
THIS DOES NOT SOUND LIKE SOMETHING THE BIGGEST BAND IN THE WORLD WOULD PUT OUT!

Free Music Review: pre-order???
Hit: 1 Stars

So, I thought I pre-ordered the Deluxe album with the DVD. My pre-order was even confirmed. Why would Amazon even issue pre-orders if copies are not put on reserve when pre-ordered? Because the album went out of stock, the total cost of my purchase went down and I lost my super saver delivery deal too. This is EXTREMELY frustrating, and downright stupid. I cancled my full order, won't ever pre-order on Amazon again, and may not purchase on Amazon for a very long time.
