Free Music Review: Alot Angrier, And Alot Faster, Than Coal Chamber

But in saying that, they shouldn't even be compared to Coal Chamber at all. Because Devildriver and Coal Chamber are so very different. For one, Devildriver are way more heavier and really alot less "Nu-Metal". And really, the only reason why they're compared to Coal Chamber, obviously, is because of Dez Fafara. And he's really hit gold with this band and this Album. The band is very tight, the drumming is fantastic, the riffs are memorable. Every song has a lasting effect on you. By the time the last song, "Devil's Son" finishes..you'll be walking around with the chorus stuck in your head for hours.
This Album i got a few months after it came out. I hesitated at first, for two reasons. One, i only knew Dez Fafara..i'd never heard of the other band members. And two, since i really didn't like Coal Chamber, i thought that it wouldn't be much different. I was so wrong. This Album blew me away when i first listened to it, and still does to this day. It has elements of Black Metal, Death Metal and Grindcore, in every song. Dez Fafara's vocals can get high-pitched, and screaming, then slow down to a growl, and then chant the chorus over and over..and he can pull it off to great effect.
Every song has an extremely catchy chorus too. The best songs would be, "Nothing's Wrong?", "I Could Care Less" (Which i'm pretty sure is the single, and that they shot a Video for it..although i've never seen it myself..), "Die (And Die Now)", "I Dreamed I Died", "Cry For Me Sky (Eulogy of The Scorned)", "The Mountain", "Knee Deep", "Revelation Machine", "Meet The Wretched" and "Devil's Son". Which is pretty much every song.
My 3 total favourites, if i had to choose, would be "Cry For Me Sky (Eulogy of The Scorned)", "Revelation Machine" and "Devil's Son". "Cry For Me Sky.." has possibly the heaviest riff on this Album, and will be a definite crowd-pleaser Live. On "Revelation Machine"..Dez Fafara's throat must hurt after the way he screams "Revelation And "Devil's Son" is just a fantastic, catchy, ending to a fantastic, and surprising, Album. I think it will really surprise quite a few people who disliked Dez's previous band.
The people i recommend this to most, are those who disliked Coal Chamber. But are open-minded enough to accept various genre's in Metal. Like i said, this has elements of Black Metal, Death Metal and even Grindcore to some extent. But fans of those genre's need to be open-minded, as Devildriver aren't 'fully' any one of those genre's. I'm honestly not sure which genre they could fit into. Which, personally, i think makes them somewhat unique as they can pull off mixing up different genre's in each song, extremely well.
