Of course the songs are cool, funky, jivin' and wacky, but the neatest thing about Devo as a band is their concept. They explore and exploit society's crass consumer nature, paranoia, and despair, and they include social/political commentary into their art, and if you're of a libertarian/rebellious bent like me, you'll like what you hear. But more than anything, this album jams! "Uncontrollable Urge" is wacky and jives, "Mongoloid" ditto, and the cover of "Satisfaction" is wicked, twisted, and hot to boot. Ok let me play the race card.I am black and so were 95% of my friends when this Lp came out.I remember buying it just because of the album cover. When I took it home and played it I knew right away that Devo would hang.I remember playing it at a house party[I Can't Get No Satisfaction]My homies never forgot and this was months before they even got airplay.I would still be jamming this joint but it came up mysteriously missing thanks to my brother Johnnie.Oh well This is a cut above anything else similar that was out at the time.[groundbreakingly unpopular]Free Music Review: Spud boys are cool!

HeHE! When the music scene becomes bland and boring as it often does I like to go back to this one. A refreshing reminder of how cool music could be. These guys always took things to the extreme and were proud of it. This CD (album back then) helped break the barriers of music and open the pathway for others. Nasal, monotone vocals at it's best with a unique humor and energy.Free Music Review: just for the record...

Free Music Review: Great new wave

It's hard to describe Devo to a person who is unfamiliar with them. They really can't get a good taste of Devo's humor and new wave sensibilities. You can either tell them that Devo has a song called "Mongoloid", or you can hand them a copy of this album. Either way, it's an awesome album.
