Free Music Notes for Q: Are We Not MenFree Music Review: I must repeat...I must repeat Hit: 5 Stars
Ok lets GO!...out and buy DEVO's first record, "Are We Not Men...". Or, put it in your shopping cart at Amazon, you'll thank me and the rest of the spuds who swear by DEVO and their accompanying philosophy, devolution. If I can remember correctly, its the state of man today because he has chosen not to cull his kind, and now is moving backwards on the evolutionary timeline. Look around you, and youll see its true. Eleven spaced out tunes for the anti-disco punk/geek...Heed the words of DEVO, friends.
Free Music Review: For the punk fan who also happens to be a thoughtful nerd. Hit: 5 Stars
This is a very special album. Americans didn't get punk and the few that played it weren't all that great ("The Ramones" aside, of course!). And the few that were good didn't add much to the mix. "Devo" is a wonderful exception to all those rules. This is a smart, funny, catchy, amazing album. Like "Wire" and "The Ramones," they were masters of saying it all in just a few succinct, brilliantly constructed phrases. This is rock'n'roll at its best.
Free Music Review: A: D-E-V-O! Hit: 5 Stars
This is of course a classic & worthy of all the praise it gets. Mongoloid & Too Much Paranoias are brilliant highlights. This weekend I picked up a fan club live album from this era "How to keep a Devotee busy for hours" w/ "Turn over" written on each side & it was excellent too. It must be noted the influence of Captain Beefheart on them, or that's what I always read, though they're not the same. Also Mark does the Rugrats music now.
Free Music Review: Gut Feeling is not from a coffee club. Hit: 5 Stars
Greg Schwartz's smoking gun; ie Devo's song "Gut Feeling" was stolen from Spandu Ballet's "Coffee Club" (off of their Diamond Album) was enough to peek my curiosity. A simple check of the sound byte of the song on the Amazon page of the "Diamond album by Spandu Ballet" confirms Greg may have been taking some kind of mind altering drug that day. Rock on Spuds, nobody before or after will ever sound like those boys from Akron.
Free Music Review: The Beginning WAS the End! Hit: 5 Stars
This was the first record (yes, I said record) that I ever bought. Back in the 70s, this was cutting edge. The sounds are raw and still come off with a fury and edginess second to none. The production is top notch by Brian Eno. Satisfaction has never been covered better and the band made it a habbit of doing great covers.
So, all you Spuds and Spudettes, throw on your protective yellow suits and listen to General Boy- "Duty Now for the Future"
