Free Music Notes for All for You: A Dedication to the Nat King Cole TrioFree Music Review: Diana Krall makes me proud of my generation Hit: 5 Stars
I first happened upon this CD at a listening station at the record store. I admit I first clicked over to it thinking, "Who's this pretty white chick from Canada who thinks she plays jazz?" Man, what a pleasant surprise! From the first phrases of "Errand Girl for Rhythm," I was grinning with the mischievous fun of it all. Soon I was unashamedly bopping about with the headphones on, listening to track after track, wincing sliding through the sassy swing of "Frim Fram Sauce," and wincing with the bluesy tang of her ballads. Needless to say, I spent some money that day.
Free Music Review: At Her Best Hit: 5 Stars
This is Diana Krall at her best, shifting easily and seamlessly from ballad to up-tempo rhythms, capturing every mood that a good jazz singer should be capable of evoking. There is not a bad song on this album. This is what jazz is all about. I'm glad I had the common sense to catch Diana Krall perform live from this album in a small intimate jazz club setting before she became a household name. Start with her later, lush, sometimes overwrought and overproduced orchestrations with strings, if you must, but then come back to this to capture the essence of a superb jazz artist with two wonderful instruments.
Free Music Review: Simply a terrific CD Hit: 5 Stars
After reading many reviews of Diana Krall on amazon,I went out and bought "Love Scenes". While it was OK, it didn't meet the high expectations I had. Being a big Nat King Cole fan, though, I decided to give this CD a try. Boy am I glad I did. This is a hauntingly beautiful CD. While all of the songs are good, her version of Boulevard of Broken Dreams blew me away. I thought no one could approach Frank Sinatra on those two-in-the-morning saloon-style songs, but Diana Krall does on her sad and achingly beautiful version of this song, which all by itself is worth the price of the CD.
Free Music Review: Diana's Best Hit: 5 Stars
This is the CD to buy to hear the real Diana Krall. Lots of good piano stylings here and a real variety of material. "Baby Ain't I Good To You" and "If I Had You' are real gems. The upbeat "Hit That Jive Jack'" really swings. Her most requested signature "Frim Fram Sauce" is there too. She does a wonderful rendition of "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" Diana Krall is the future of vocal jazz and is unequalled with her combination of unique vocal interpretations backed up by the most competent keyboard accompaniment possible.
Free Music Review: Incredible singing instrument Hit: 5 Stars
Most of the songs here are unfamiliar to me. But in every track one hears the remarkable singing voice of Krall. She is one of those singers like Streisand who makes the voice a musical instrument. She moves us in so many subtle ways. And there is something about the quality of her voice, its fullness, its beautiful timbre. She seems also to have such control of what she is doing , and she is always making it interesting with new little riffs here and there. She is the best 'new singer' I have heard in years.
Just a remarkable singer who it is pleasure to hear.
