Free Music Notes for Christmas SongsFree Music Review: Diana Krall Swings! Hit: 5 Stars
This jazzy Christmas CD is the swingiest from among my Christmas CD collection. Diana Krall's extraordinary vocal artistry and piano skills make her one of the gifted female jazz artists of today. She is, without a doubt, the Modern Day Jazz Diva.
Backed up by a fantastic full jazz orchestra, The Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Ms. Krall delivers a dozen of traditional Christmas carols with new flair and style. All her performances are remarkably stunning from the opener and the jazziest of all "Jingle Bells" to the last track and the least covered Christmas song by the great composer Irving Berlin, "Count Your Blessings Instead Of Sheep."
My favorites include all the noteworthy tracks - "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?" "The Christmas Song," "I'll Be Home For Christmas," "White Christmas" and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas."
I merrily recommend this fabulous Christmas CD for your listening enjoyment. You'll enjoy it not only this time of the year but all-year-round as well if you're the type who enjoys Christmas music the whole year through - like a dear friend of mine who greatly influenced me to listen to Christmas music as early as June this year! ;)
Have the Happiest Holidays ever!
Free Music Review: Classic Christmas songs performed in jazz style Hit: 5 Stars
Diana Krall is one of the best jazz vocalists around today. This CD features her performing Christmas standards. I love the big band sound that the orchestra provides on this album. There are fun groovy sounding standards like Jingle Bells and Let It Snow. I never thought that Christmas music could be romantic, but that is the feeling Krall creates on the track I'll Be Home For Christmas. Winter Wonderland has a very sensual sound. I loved the smooth bass guitar on this track. Her rendition of White Christmas is absolutely lovely. There is such a romantic sentiment to this song. The Christmas Song is another highlight on this album. It is a song about enjoying the simple things in life like spending time with family and listening to Christmas carols. Santa Claus is Coming To Town is another highlight on this CD. Krall really communicates a feeling of excitement and anticipation with her vocals on this track. Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep. It is a song that I am not famillar with, but I love the message of the song of being thankful for all of your many blessings in life. Diana's piano playing and vocals on the track Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas are so relaxing. I really enjoyed this song. I loved listening this CD.
Free Music Review: My favorite Chistmas Album this year. Hit: 5 Stars
My sweetheart loves Christmas, so every year I am on the lookout for a new CD that might be nice to listen to on the rare chance we get to drive together. This CD ended up being played at home quite a bit this last Christmas, and here's why.
While you might find any number of old familiar Albums, I get kind of tired of the stuff that my folks might have played in the 60's when I was small (well besides the Chipmunks... I mean that's classic). That leaves mostly three choices, Motown/ Rock and roll versions, Country versions (some of which are actually quite good) Or the Modern "Pop Diva" versions, and for me that is the worst, because they are more about showing how many times they can make vocal runs go up and down the scales, and I am just so sick of that.
Well here is a pleasant alternative.
The arrangements are simple and you can sing along, which is kind of the point with a Christmas CD, and the vocals are filled with such warmth and if I can say it right, a reserved (adult) enthusiasm. Again, Ms. Krall simply makes me believe her performance, and that is why I love this CD.
Free Music Review: Swinging Sexy Chrismas!!! Hit: 5 Stars
For all of you that have problems with the sexy marketing of Diana, I think it would be best to simply lighten up and celebrate the wonderful festive music on the CD. Do the sexy poses really take anything away from the great music? And it's not like this is anything new. Check out the Julie London record covers from 50 years ago. Let the girl be glamorous and let the music speak for itself. And the music is swinging!! Man, I can hardly sit still during the fast paced numbers and the slow ones are "sitting by the fire with your sweetheart" kind of music. I do wish there was at least one song that refered to the reason for the season but you can't have everything. "Count your Blessings" is a nice treat at the end of the album and nicely captures the reflections, hopes and dreams of the season. Buy this. You won't be sorry. Maybe some of you could just put a plain brown wrap around the cover and dig the music. As for me, I really don't mind looking at a pretty girl in a christmas dress.
Free Music Review: Awesome Christmas CD - Does this make me a bad person? Hit: 5 Stars
First, I own about 30 Christmas CDs. And I think Christmas music is its own genre and is something that isn't judged on its merits but by a combination of hardwired preferences and childhood experiences. I think people are judging this CD using about 50 different measuring sticks. Reading the reviews is like a ping pong match. Loved it. Hated it. Best CD in the world. Worst CD ever produced.
Myself? Loved it. Did it reinvent the Christmas genre as we know it? Honestly, I don't expect Christmas music to do that. To me, Christmas music should evoke warm feelings and make a party more fun. And it shouldn't be annoying. With the hundreds of Christmas CDs still in print (and the hundreds more that died a deserved death), why would we place those sort of expectations on anyone? It's a Christmas CD, and, I think, a great one. Definitely 5 stars in my book. Shouldn't annoy anyone (yet, somehow, it seems it does...)
