Free Music Notes for From This Moment onFree Music Review: Big Band Sound suits Canadian Musician Hit: 5 Stars
As others have rightly said, Krall seemed to come terribly close to falling into the banal and mainstream.
Girl in the Other Room, a collaboration with husband Elvis C. is an easy listening little record - some really good tunes with a few insightful & skilful moments.
Krall feels to have come into what she likes and does best - the genius of Berlin, Heusen, Porter and George and Ira Gershwin.
These are incredible songs, lyrics like no other or since, capturing the sad heart, the troubled mind and the pure joy of love.
My favourite composers of that era: Richard Rogers & Lorenze Hart with their cruel yet beautiful love song, Little Girl Blue.
"You can count on raindrops that fall on you...
We need little boy blue to cheer up, Little Girl Blue."
Bloom and Mercer: Day in Day Out - a classic song wonderfully done by her excellent group of musicians.
Krall and her producer, Tommy LiPuma, chose these tunes that suit Krall and also timeless in their composition. She feels comfortable with these songs, relaxed, right at home.
This is a record that should be listened to at least a couple of times, absorbing the time and places they were written and first performed.
American songbook tunes that will never ever be forgoten.
A pleasure - Hey! -'Come and Dance with Me' seeing you across a crowded floor...
Great record.
Free Music Review: Jazz Standards To Delight Hit: 5 Stars
After contemporary leanings with The Girl in the Other Room, Diana Krall offers her rendition of jazz music's most romantic standards. FROM THIS MOMENT ON is a vibrant collection of songs, which range from big band/swing to alternating intimate interludes. Krall and the Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orcherstra provide a passionate and dedicated interpretation of songs written by legendary musical masters, such as Irving Berlin, Rodgers-Hart, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, and many others.
FROM THIS MOMENT ON will entertain the listener. All the tracks on the cd are very memorable, and reminescent of the sounds of jazz music's past. The opening muted brass intonations on "It Could Happen To You" begins this musical jaunt. Krall does a satisfying rendition of Antonio Carlos Jobim's somewhat haunting bossa nova song,"How Insensitive." The title track, "From This Moment On," is a fast and fabulous tune, which is followed by the lullaby-like, "Little Girl Blue." The swinging and swaying continue with "Day In Day Out," but Krall and the orchestra do a moving and wistful version of "Willow Weep For Me."
FROM THIS MOMENT ON is a relaxing and toe tapping cd. Krall continues to carry on the jazz tradition that female vocalists of this genre have done in the past, and it is an engaging and pleasurable record.
Free Music Review: Great entertainment!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Diana Krall's "From This Moment On" salutes the timeless standards.
From the Gershwins to Johnny Mercer---Jobim to Irving Berlin---Cole Porter to Rodgers and Hart, the selections in this collection are flawless.
She makes the songs her own with her stylish simplicity, sophistication, elegance and grace.
Ms. Krall's élan and confidence give the songs a freshness that makes you feel that you are hearing them for the first time.
In fact, "From This Moment On" by Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer's "Day In, Day Out" and "Exactly Like You" by McHugh and Fields sound like they were written especially for her.
Never did I think anyone could co-own (or even sublet) "Come Dance With Me" from Frank Sinatra, but Diana Krall does something extra-special with it.
A compilation of "whoop dee doo" songs performed in a polished and refined manner.
It is quite possible that Diana Krall is the Ella Fitzgerald of our day.
Free Music Review: Thanks for giving new life to old evergreens!. Hit: 5 Stars
Time is on their side. The Gershwin, Harold Arlen, Cole Porter and Rodgers and Hart songs have proven that they are some of the most intelligent and sophisticated tunes in pop history. I'm happy to see Ms. Krall give these tunes due respect with lush arrangements and great singing and phrasing. I think she works well in either a small jazz combo or with a full ork. She should consider doing the entire songbooks of each of the great songwriters just like Ella did over 40 years ago. She can bring the entire songbooks to new generations. You just can't beat a good song, and Diana does them so well. I love rock and roll, but most of the songs only work within the confines of the original group because the songs don't lend themselves to different personalities or are not really that melodic. Can you imagine Tony Bennett singing "Honky Tonk Woman"? If you're a fan of Krall or love high class sounds..you won't be dissapointed with this CD! Thanks again for giving new life to old evergreens.
Free Music Review: I love this new CD from Diana Krall Hit: 5 Stars
Diana Krall is one of my favorite jazz singers. The title track is the best in my opinion, but I love them all. I think the trumpet playing compliments her vocals so well. All of the musicians sound great on this CD. It Could Happen To You is an excellent song about how people fall in love when they least expect to. Exactly Like You and Isn't This A Lovely Day are two very good love songs. Come Dance With Me is another gem on this disc. Krall's vocals are so sensual and frisky here. The track Little Girl Blue and Willow Weep For Me and How Insensitive are standout songs. I love them, because they sound so sad. I think Krall's vocals reflect a sense of loss and loneliness on these three beautiful tracks. You Can Depend On Me is another highlight track. This is a song about what it means to be a friend. I love this new CD.
