Free Music Notes for Live in ParisFree Music Review: Oh sooooo good.... Hit: 5 Stars
I missed a chance to see Miss Krall last May in Ft. Lauderdale. This album helps me forgive myself for that faux pas. 'Live In Paris' also makes up for the overly lush, orchestrated last release, 'Look of Love', that I had to reluctantly rate as 4 stars in my review. I've wanted an album like this from Miss Krall for a long time. It was worth the wait. I'm just going to make it simple for you--buy this album, pop it in your CD player, put on headphones, light some candles, break out a bottle of French wine, turn down the lights and it is almost like you are there in the Paris audience. It is lush, but in a different way than the previously mentioned album. The lushness comes from Miss Krall's voice-not an orchestra. Her ensemble is pure magic, never overpowering the most unique phrasing that is part of Miss Krall's musical identity. For now I will settle for this album as a substitution for actually seeing her in person. Believe me, I won't let that chance pass me by again.
Free Music Review: Pure Krall Hit: 5 Stars
Unlike some of the other reviewers I loved the "new" sultry, Diana and her offerings. This, however, is probably much closer to the "true" Diana Krall than some of those offerings. Unlike the current crop of rap "stars" (making millions with their celebration of poverty), artists like Diana Krall,Jane Monheit, Tierney Sutton and Cheryl Bentyne actually KNOW the music - both theory and performance.
Krall, in addition to being a fine pianist and a top-of-the-line vocalist is also actively involved in arrangment and composition (as are the others mentioned above). This performance is one of the best, carrying that atmosphere and sense of presence that only a live outing can do. Once again, the melding of her voice and piano with the band says it all- arrangements are crips and never "wandering", her rather odd intonation is near perfect.
The album improves on repeated listenings as all good recordings do.
Free Music Review: Incredible jazz vocals in a live performance Hit: 5 Stars
What can you say about Diana Krall's contemporary jazz style that would do it justice? Do yourself a favor and listen to the sample tracks Amazon provides and then you will no doubt want to make her vocal musings and jazz piano playing part of your collection. While many "greatest hits" CDs are merely republications of tracks from previous CDs, "Live in Paris" makes you a part of a concert experience - hearing and no doubt loving some of her favorite tunes as if she were there live singing for you. Sit back, close your eyes (unless you're in the car of course) and just imagine you are there listening to that incredible voice in person. If you are a fan of contemporary jazz, or just easy relaxing melodies this is definitely the CD for you. If you only like heavy metal and hard rock - well, why are you looking at this CD anyway? :-) Highly recommended.
Free Music Review: The Real Diana Krall Hit: 5 Stars
I have not been a fan of where Krall's handlers have been taking her recently. In The Look of Love, I thought the creative artist got lost in the packaging of the beauty queen.Anyone who has seen her live knows she has chops at the piano which equal (at least) the great voice. So I purchased this CD (I'm addicted so there was never a choice about 'not' purchasing) with some trepidation. However, the opening bars on the first cut, I Love Being Here With You, told me this was going to be fun! If you're not a Krall fan and want to know what all the buzz is about - get this CD and you'll know why. This lady can sing, she can play, and she can work an audience like a politician. The only downside of this CD (if you can call it that) is that you can't use it for background music - it won't be ignored. So just crank the volume up and have a good ole time!
Free Music Review: Can't Wait to Get the DVD!!! Hit: 5 Stars
What a rush! This CD is magnificent!! I had ordered all of Krall's CD's to date, but the quality and excitement was waning for me until I heard "Live in Paris." More soul, longer improvisations, more piano, and fewer stock orchestral arrangments! The orchestra is there on some tracks, but very subdued. "Let's fall in Love" (Track 1) sets the stage as it rocks on with a driving force. I also enjoyed the "Sweet Georgia Brown" riffs in "Deed I Do"; "East of the Sun"; and "Devil May Care" (listen carefully to her piano choruses and you'll hear her sneak it in!). Great comeback to the small jazz club atmosphere, even though it's recorded live in a big hall. I also loved "A Case of You" -- it's a change for Diana and shows the depth of her talent. If you haven't bought a Diana Krall CD, start with this one -- you won't be disappointed!
