Free Music Review: I think I'm in love!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

There isn't much to say that others haven't already, but I think this may be Diana Krall's best effort to date. I have several of her other albums, and after listening to this one, it seems to find its way into my DVD player more often than the others. Her smoky voice and smooth piano make her far more than just another girl singer, and she deserves all the accolades she gets. This review is based on the Dual Disc version of this album. For those not in the know, the Dual Disc is a two-sided disc, one side which plays in most standard CD players, the other side being a DVD with the complete album in 5.1 surround sound and high resolution stereo. There are also two music videos there, as well. I listened to both sides, but the surround mix on the DVD side brings Diana and her trio right into your living room. Listening in surround makes the experience more intimate, as if she's singing only for you. Diana's voice is firmly anchored in center front, while her band wraps around you like a boa. There are textures in the music which are lost in the stereo mix. If you have a good home theatre system, you owe it to yourself to seek this one out. If your DVD player supports DVD-Audio, the experience will be that much better. But the Dolby Digital surround track is also surprisingly good, considering the compression used there. In any event, you need this Dual Disc! Waste no time!

Free Music Review: My favorite Diana Krall CD!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Average 3 stars?! Please, you've got to be joking! I hope that all who read these reviews will not let that stop you from purchasing an awesome, intelligent & deep jazz album!
I have been a fan of Diana Krall for some time & love her versions of some of the best jazz standards ever written. Little did I know how much of a talent she is creatively as a songwriter!
The first time I listened to this CD, I admit, my ears were not prepared for what I heard. (Thankfully I read on amazon that much of the songs she wrote with hubby Elvis Costello. Which by the way increased my interest in the CD!) But reading the lyrics while listening to the music, I found this to be an exceptional CD which I have listened to over & over again...and not during dinner/cocktail parties!
This CD never puts me to sleep, yet when I need to relax it does get me there like her other CDs...but with more of an emotional & inspired impact. I highly recommend this disc! It is pure pleasure to listen to such creativity coming from 2 musical geniuses, Diana & Elvis (what a pair!). Not to mention one of the best covers of Joni Mitchell (Black Crow)! Diana delivers this with such passion that I wish she would do an entire CD of Joni's songs! Amazing!!!
Thank you Diana!

Free Music Review: She's Good Again
Hit: 5 Stars

After the very disappointing "The Look of Love" Diana is back with a good studio effort. I'm not surprised this record disappoints some people, as they would prefer to hear her sing some standards again. The truth is this could be her best record so far, the songs are intimate and very creative. Her choices of cover songs are more contemporary and less commercial however they are wonderfully played and sung and not as syrupy as her last effort. Her cover of Elvis's classic Almost Blue (once covered by Chet Baker) is beautiful and complements their original compositions.
Elvis Costello's lyrics were inspired by Diana's direction however surprisingly they are dark not that it should be unexpected as typically Elvis writes melancholy lyrics. Also with the recent passing of Diana's Mother some songs reflect that loss. I thought however their recent found love for each other would be more evident on their co-written songs.
This is a great new direction for Diana and a positive step forward for Jazz. Jazz can not continue to simply repeat standards and keep it self a stagnate art of another time. Perhaps the jazz purist will be disappointed but more important this might turn a new generation on to the Jazz of their time and the classics of tomorrow.

Free Music Review: Amazing!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Diana Krall is an amazing artist! I can still remember the first time I saw her perform. I saw her perform on the 1999 Grammy Awards. She performed with Erykha Badu and George Benson. It was phenominal! I was amazed! I immeadiately went out and bought her album, and I have bought every album since then. My favorite has to be Live in Paris because it captures her amazing talent, especially her piano playing. Her voice is very unique, with the mix of smokiness and breathiness. No one else is like her. I believe she is one of those artists that will stand the test of time. Years from now peoplle will be talking about Diana Krall's amazing talents, lyrically, vocally, and for her piano playing. I abosolutely love her new album. I have to disagree with everyone who complains that this album is not her best because she decided to collaborate with Elvis Costello. I think her personal and working relationship with Elvis has made her a better artist. It let her open up about very personal things. Most artists can't open up like this this early in their career. The fact that Diana can makes her all the more interesting. I would recommend her new album to anyone. Anyone who is a true Diana Krall fan has to go out and buy this album. You won't regret it!

Free Music Review: Finally, the one...
Hit: 5 Stars

Diana Krall ultimately made it. The setting with the jazz band rather than an orchestra brings an intimate feeling. Right tempo, great songbook and the voice create "be here now" atmosphere. The album sets the mood.

Listen to the record either loud or low, you will be amazed with its feeling of closeness to you that still allows space for aloofness.

Stop The World sets the spirit of the recording and promises a great adventure through the music journey with Diana Krall. And the rest of the album does not disappoint. Indeed. Temptation is, of course, the track that can be played again and again. You won't be able to resist listening to it one more time, every time. Abandoned Masquerade brings scenery of a late night cafe - dimmed lights, a few remaining guests, deep smoke from cigars in the air. The last track on the disc proves great thought put behind the record. Nowadays, there are not many records that end in a way they should be. The Girl In The Other Room with its Departure Boy is a rare exception. You wouldn't end the record in a better way.

Don't tempt yourself. You can't resist listening to Diana Krall this time. This record will definitely be the one for jazz record of the year.
