Free Music Review: My favorite Diana Krall album
Hit: 5 Stars

I can't believe all the negative reviews this CD has been getting from the public! I have all of Diana Krall's CDs, & they're all classics. However, this album stands out for me simply because of Claus Ogerman's string arrangments. For many years, jazz artists have been critized for using strings; people claiming that it's not "pure jazz". Charlie Parker, Clifford Brown, Wynton Marsalis, just to name a few, have used strings, & it hasn't taken away their status as legendary jazz artists. Diana Krall IS a true jazz artist. The strings are perfect for the songs that she selected for this session. If you took away the strings, you would have the same Diana Krall, playing & singing just like she did on "Love Scenes", "All For You", etc. I'm not going to comment on any particular track. However, I say to all Diana Krall fans, you need to give this CD a 2nd chance. Once you do, I hope you will discover the beauty of the music that she has to offer on this album.

Free Music Review: S'Wonderful, S'Marvelous, S'Luscious
Hit: 5 Stars

So smooth, so mellow, these incredibly romantic songs will warm your heart, put you in a sentimental mood, and make you think of the one you love...
Diana Krall's smoky voice and terrific interpretations, her jazz piano, and the incredible musicians that back her are all superb. There are also beautiful, lush strings arranged and conducted by Claus Ogerman and played either by the London Symphony Orchesta or a L.A. session orchestra (a.k.a. the best musicians in town).

The songs ! What a great and incredibly tasteful collection of classics...a delight to hear the Julie London hit "Cry Me a River" again...always adored "Love Letters"...my favorite Burt Bacharach song, "The Look of Love"...the delectable "Besame Mucho", and on and on...every track a pleasure to hear.
Each song is taken at a slightly slower tempo than is perhaps usually heard...the better to dream by ! This is truly the most relaxing CD I've ever heard.
Total playing time is 50:36.

Free Music Review: Sultry Romanticism
Hit: 5 Stars

What an absolute beauty!! No wonder everyone is raving about Ms Krall. I'm not a great fan of focal stuff, sorry folks I guess that's just me, but when I heard this album I fell under its spell. This is sultry romanticism at its best and Canadian born Ms Krall provides us with a magical and heady reminder of a truly wondrous age in jazz. There aren't many jazz artists, male or female, that can lay claim to that golden seven digit number in sales but Ms Krall carries it off with frightening ease and this alone lends a sense of curiosity to those who have not yet discovered her. One can only but wonder to what heady heights her talent will carry her. I loved Steve's review, he surmised it so beautifully ... "that deep sensual voice, at once icy cool and warmly intimate". I adored the first track S'Wonderful and also Dancing In The Dark later on in the album.

This album comes highly recommended to all jazz fans and I shall definitely be collecting more of her work.

Free Music Review: Stunning
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is achingly beautiful. Though wrapped in a package of lush strings, at it's heart is the soulful jazz style of Ms. Krall.

Though much has been written here about her singing (which is at once sultry and sophisticated, plaintiff and jazzy), little has been said about her piano playing, which is first rate. She can be swingy, even during ballads, and sensitive even when swinging. She is one of the few musicians who understands that the space between the notes is as important as the notes themselves, and she "plays the spaces" with as much style as the music itself.

This album is a wonderful compliment to her other albums. Though the others may include more up-tempo numbers, this CD showcases her impecable way around more sensitive tunes.

For those who say Ms. Krall is only successful because of her beauty, I would like to go on record saying, though classically beautiful, Diana Krall is not my type. But her music DEFINATELY is.

Free Music Review: Keep dreaming, Monheit.
Hit: 5 Stars

If you have read anything at all about female Jazz singers recently, you are most likely to have heard of the 23-year-old Jane Monheit and about how she might be the "next Diana Krall", or something to that effect. If you do not know both singers, you may feel tempted to see if they are indeed comparable. And I am here to tell you they are not.
Go ahead, give Monheit's last album ("Come Dream With Me") a try, if you must. Then come listen to this jewel and realize how some of the greatest songs of our era should be sung - my feeling is that it is exactly the way Ms. Krall sings them. Quite simply, she understands what they mean. That, my friend, makes all the difference in the world.
Need I tell you about the arrangements? They are fantastic, with the outside influences (Brazilian, Pop) in all the right places. Nothing ever goes too far here.
Make no mistake, this is the real deal. You'll see.
