Ms Schuur melds her tailor-made-for-R&B voice (soulfulness, perfect pitch, and an outstanding vocal range) with some of the more accessible rhythms of jazz and blues, creating a very enjoyable series of songs. Like Alan Parsons' "A Valid Path," this is a great album to play while enjoying a bottle of scotch or a few bottles of wine with your friends. Also, unlike some blues and jazz artists, each song differs from the others and is just plain fun to listen to.
Note: another person noted the type of piano used in this album, and criticized it for dating the album. I don't deny that use of that piano type does date the album somewhat, but I think at this stage that's more of an asset than a liability. The sound is now sufficiently unusual to add something to the instrumental arrangement and overall song quality.
