Free Music Notes for Life for Rent

Free Music Review: My life soundtrack
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been a big fan of Dido's music since the first time I heard her lush vocals on Faithless' first album. Her first cd "No Angel" was good, a bit predictable and often bland but still quite good. Dido definitely has a distinct voice that sets her apart from most of her counterparts nowadays. She may have a limited range but she knows it and doesn't try to hit the high notes like a lot of singers do.

"Life For Rent" is Dido's second album. I definitely felt the material was much stronger than the songs on her first album both lyrically and musically. Her songs take on a more lush, intimate sound courtesy of the occasional acoustic guitar. I feel like I am in a studio watching Dido perform when I listen to "Life for Rent". The title track is my favorite song because I often relate to her lyrics. Initially I wasn't too wild about the first single "White Flag" but after hearing it several times on the radio when it first came out, the song eventually grew on me. The songs on the album tends to sound eerily similiar which is a minor flaw but I didn't mind it. I am just glad that there was no "Thank You" pt 2 on the cd. Overall this is a nice cd to listen to in the morning with a steaming hot cup of coffee and a scone or two, nice mellow music to chill out to.

Free Music Review: Puts a smile on my face
Hit: 5 Stars

For the moment, this is my favorite cd. I cannot stop listening to it, and its not only because Dido's voice is so enchanting, all the songs on it are simply superb and I love not having to use the FF ( skip forward) button on it.

She sounds like a sea at midnight in dreamy melancholy with sweet undertones. For a sophomore album I think she grew as an artist, and since I really liked the first cd, I had no idea that the second one could be even better.

I love blasting it really loud to the point where you get the same feeling as when you are submerged in a bathtub, her voice cradles you whole body and makes all the hair stand up. Don't Leave Home is so full of soul and so mesmerizing that it sticks in my head for days even after one listen. Her smoky voice curls over the funky lyrics and combined with an orchestra of sound it makes for a gorgeous song.

I think all the songs on the album are fabulous, but the ones that stand out the most are Don't Leave Home, White Flag, The Land is Mine and See the Sun. Each one is deep, luminous and something that you will love for a long time. I can't imagine being tired of this album. Excellent soft lovely music for any time of day or mood.

Free Music Review: DARK BLUE WORLDS
Hit: 5 Stars

How did I miss hearing about Dido before? This is wonderful stuff! Would that half of us come up with such beautiful and poetic expressions from a deep depression after a romantic breakup. Dido also has an unusual blend of sound. A sexy, sultry voice over a soulful beat with ethereal high notes in the background. The actual music is better than this brief description reads.

"White Flag" is the radio single most of us have heard and it gives you a big clue to what this CD is like. One by one each song adds another part of a story of a woman whose love has left her-but she is not ready to let him go. Indeed, she can't. We are told of desperation ("Stoned"), hopeful pleading ("Don't Leave Home", painful memories ("Sand In My Shoes") and that unexpected period where acceptance alternates with black helplessness ("See The Sun").

This album would be disturbing if it were not so beautiful. When love walks away and all hope is lost of ever getting them back, the whole world is coming to an end. There is no "snapping out of it". All that can be done is to ride it out. Sounds to me like Dido was lost for quite a while. This is one of the most deep and human albums to come our way in a long time.

Free Music Review: Beautiful and Inspiring
Hit: 5 Stars

I have fallen head over heels for Dido's sophomore release, 'Life For Rent'. This is a - there's no other way to describe it - fantastic album. Every song is simply amazing. The songwriting is beautiful and thought provoking, whilst Dido's distinct vocals are absolutely exquisit. From the interesting story behind 'Mary's In India', to the perfectly creepy 'Who Makes You Feel', and even to 'This Land Is Mine' (which puts a smile on my face everytime I hear it), I love every track on this album. My very favorite track on the album is 'See You When You're 40', which includes the beautiful lyrics,

"So see you when you're 40
Lost and all alone
Being comforted by strangers
You'll never need to know
Not sad because you lost me
But sad because you thought
It was cool, to be sad."

The standout tracks include 'White Flag', 'See You When You're 40', 'Who Makes You Feel', 'Sand In My Shoe', and 'Do You Have A Little Time'. I would definitely recommend this album, but if you're a fan of upbeat pop music, you probably won't like it. It took me a couple of listens to completely get hooked, but now that I am, I can't seem to turn 'Life For Rent' off.

Free Music Review: Already waiting for her next release
Hit: 5 Stars

As most fans, I first heard Dido as an accompanying voice for M&M. I was very intrigued by the somewhat melancholy yet seductive female voice and purchased her first CD. I loved her first CD, cannot stop raving about her second CD, and anxiously wait for her next release. It is heartbreaking when you grow to like an artist based on one CD but find that there next release is disappointing. Dido has NOT been a disappointment and has definitely kept my attention with this CD as much as, and possibly more than, her first.

This CD is for all age groups whether your a teenager or preparing to retire. The music in some songs is slightly electronic and mysterious while combining with an often folk-like feeling. The lyrics reflect on life, love, and learning and will spark many emotions and give many listeners the feeling of a conected understanding with the artist. Dido definitely has a very distinct voice and sound on this CD as well as her first.

The CD will definitely impress you the first time you listen to it but you will grow more and more attatched to it. With each listen you find a new lyrical passage true to life or a new musical rhythem to satisfy your mood.
