Free Music Review: Great Debut CD
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this album recently and other than Moby's Play, this is the best album that I ever purchased considering that I only had heard of 1 song on the album. That 1 song was Thank You which at first I didn't like. But, I heard it so many times that I started to like it. Then I went to Amazon and read the reviews which the majority were positive. The last time that I took a chance, I struck gold with Moby's Play (which I think in time will be recognized as one of the truly great albums of all-time). Here's the track listing and my thoughts on each:

1) Here With Me -- Believe it or not, I honestly had never heard this song until I bought the album. I fell in love with it immediately! What a great song. This song has everything--great instrumentation and arrangement by Rollo and Rick Nowells and of course smooth vocals by Dido, who helped co-write this song (she co-writes every song on the album). 2) Hunter -- A very underrated song. It's one of those songs that gets better after every listen. 3) Don't Think of Me -- Another standout track. It's very close to being my favorite track on the album, battling along with Here With Me and Thank You. Once again, very polished and flawless vocals by Dido and great production by the individual that simply goes by Youth. I'm not one that gets into lyrics, but the lyrics to this song are awesome! 4) My Lover's Gone -- A ballad--it's an interesting change of pace compared to the first 3 songs. Solid song but not as good as the first 3 or the next 2. 5) All You Want -- A pretty good track with once again thought-provoking lyrics. You might be saying to yourself, "Can it get any better than this?" The answer is a resounding YES! 6) Thank You -- The reason that the answer is yes is because of this track--the one that I bought this album for. I just love the overall feel and texture of this song. As most people know, the first verse was used in the useless Eminem song, Stan. That's the only bright thing that idiot has done in his whole life is to use Dido. 7) Honestly OK -- An alright track but one that I don't get excited about. 8) Slide -- Another solid performance by Dido. A pretty spooky track at time with the instrumentation. 9) Isobel -- Another track that I feel so-so about. 10) I'm No Angel -- One of the better later tracks that continues to showcase the things that Dido does so well. 11) My Life -- An alright and decent song. 12) Take my Hand -- A bonus track that is a little over 6 minutes long, it's a very good track. It's the most danceable track and even has a little techno in it. I think Dido could be an excellent Dance/Techno artist if she wanted to.

In summary, get this album because of tracks #1, #2, #3, #5, #6, #8, #10, and #12. This album has to rank as one of the best debut albums in recent years. Dido definitely has a bright future ahead of her!

Free Music Review: DIDO is here to sing her life's stories
Hit: 5 Stars

Dido debut album is great to me here are my reviews on each song

Here with Me ****: This song is very relaxing, the lyrics are great they're about wanting something and never giving on it, Both of the music videos are cool, but I like the one in color better.

Hunter ****: The music is very good, lyrics are ok, it tells a story about wanting to be free, the music video is great, it's the best of all her music videos

Don't Think Of Me ****: This song is one of thoses girl power type songs, The lyrics are telling a story about a man who cheated on her but the song takes a twist, the music video for this song is unreleased untill this day for some strange reason. By the way this song was a single but the single is hard to find.

My Lover's Gone ****: This music is great, the lyrics are well done, I like the subject. This song could have done well on the Titanic movie and soundtrack.

All You Want *** and a half: This song is not one of my favorites but I can listen to it, the lyrics are good though ,it takes a twist in the middle, the music video is a live performance which is great

Thank You *****: I like this song, though it is played out I tried to be fair with the rating, the lyrics are magic and helped help "The Real Slim Shady" make a song the has a meaning and not disrespecting to anyone.

Honestly Ok ****: I like this song very much even though it seems to lack a chorus, the lyrics are simple but great. It seems to be about beening unhappy, unsafe, unloved, lost, lonely, not needed. Listen to the song closely during the begining and you will hear some guy saying something

Slide ****: This song has some great vocals in it, the lyrics are ok,it's about working too hard, not thinking before you leap, and not knowing when to quit.

Isobel ****: This song has a great hook, lyrics are great, its about someone getting into a car crash and getting lost.

No Angel *** and a half: This song is not one of my favorites but it grows on you, the lyrics are good though it's about not beening perfect.

My Life **** and a half: This is one of the simplest songs I ever heard, It has no chorus but I like it because the music is great, the lyrics tell a story about how they can live the they want to without no one's concern.

Take My Hand **** and a half: this song is very well done, it's classical mixed with a little trip hop, the lyrics are great. When you combine the lyrics and the music it's magic. It's about the same time length as two tracks.

Overall this CD is great, it will have you wanting more. It is very successful on both parts of the world. Just goes to show you that real music can make a come back and you don't have to wear alittle of nothing to make it.

Well I hope this was helpful. Go and buy this album and support a real artist

Free Music Review: One for the Music Lovers....
Hit: 5 Stars

Although "No Angel" is Dido's first solo album, she must have already known her way around the recording studio. The younger sister of Rollo Armstrong from Faithless, she had sung backing vocals on a number of songs for the band and toured with then over a two year period. Dido's link with Faithless continues on this album. While Dido herself has co-writing credits on all the tracks, six of them were co-written with Rollo. Rollo and Dido produced everything from "ThankYou" to "My Life", while the CD's bonus track "Take My Hand" sees the siblings joined by Sister Bliss on the production credits.

Bits and pieces of this album popped in all the right places for Dido. Long before she'd ever scooped her first solo hit, "Here With Me" had been used on the my-classmates-are-aliens telly show "Roswell High". This led to "Thank You" being sampled by the hugely popular "rap" act Eminem, for his hit "Stan". Some might say she just managed to get that bit of luck singers and musicians sometimes need, others might put it down to astute management. Whatever it was, I'm not complaining - I'm just glad that I got to hear her music.

As a whole, the album has a mellow, acoustic, laid-back feel to it. It's not necessarily the sort of 'sound' you might have expected, given the level of involvement from Faithless camp, but that's no bad thing. The Roswell High tune, "Here With Me", kicks the album off. Like "Thank You", it's a nice, positive, cheery number that just oozes happy love. As much as I like these two songs, I've found myself leaning towards the tracks where things haven't gone quite right. "My Lover's Gone" and "All You Want" particularly stand out - there's a nice touch of regret and bitterness in these songs, yet they don't feel at odds with the mood of the album. The other song on the album that really stands out for me is "Isobel". Assuming, of course, it's based on real events, it seems to be a 'hello' to a friend living in Ireland who went missing. While these songs would be my favourite tracks, I wouldn't call any of the remaining songs bad in any shape or form. I'd always listen to the album from start to finish, without skipping through anything !

It should be pretty easy for you to decide whether or not to buy this album. The singles that were released from "No Angel" are a very good indication of the album's style. If you liked the singles, you'll like the album; if you didn't you won't. Though, it has to be said, I really can't understand how anyone couldn't like Dido.....

Free Music Review: Dido - No Angel
Hit: 5 Stars

Like others have said, I first heard Dido, after seeing the Eminem music video for the song "Stan". The chorus of "Stan" is from the beinging of Dido's track "Thankyou". Around the same time I saw that video and fell in love with the chorus, I saw the music video for "Thankyou". After that I was very impressed with her sound, and went out and bought her cd, just for that one track.

When I first got it, I only listened to "Thank you", but after a little while I but it on track number 1, sat back with the booklet, and read the lryic's as the cd played. Suddenly, I realized I had fallin' in love with every track. And right after the cd ended I put it back on 1. Each song has it's own unique charm, and hidden beauty. Although, her voice has been compared to others, it is different, and beautiful because of it. "Here with Me" is probably the most popular and famous track on the album, but believe it or not, I didn't even know it was on here (or that she even had sang it) when I first got it. "Thank you" which has also become popular due to Eminem, and it's release as a single, is (of course) also featured on this album. It still remains a favorite of mine, (the beat before the lryics is soft and haunting, which helps makes it great), but it is now joined by others. "Hunter", "Don't Think of Me", and the bonus track "Take My Hand" join the two songs above, as my favorites. But all the tracks are simply amazing. I usually get frighten when the cd gets up to track 8 and up (track 8 being "Slide"), because from there on it tends to be filler tracks, however, that is not the case on this cd. Every song is terrific! The melodies, are always completely different from the songs before, yet every track seems to flow right into each other. And the soft elegance of each song shines throw everytime Dido starts to sing. The lryic's are some of the some beautiful lryic's I've ever heard. They read like poems, but sound wonderful in song. And none of the song's lryic's have cheat rhymes, each word is very unique, and flows well with the rest, in a different way. Also, each track sounds very personal, Dido is not like other artist's who don't ever show any emotion as they sing, each word is expressed perfectly by Dido, and her incredible voice. If I were to rate each track, they would all get a 10/10. The music will relax you, and put you in a better mood. Even if you have only heard one of her song's, you should pick up this album. You won't be disappointed.

Free Music Review: Refreshing....
Hit: 5 Stars

I know there are plenty of reviews out there on this product; by now my opinion doesn't make a great difference. However, I'd like to comment briefly on this album anyway. :) Quite frankly, I was getting a bit bored of all the 3-chord songs on the radio by so-called artists; that's supposed to be today's best "MUSIC?" Try today's junk. Sorry, I'm a little tired and cranky right now. :) Anyway, I first heard the popular "Thank U" when Dido sang it with Eminem on Saturday Night Live. My brother and I are both classical/jazz musicians...pop music isn't really our thing, but this clear, minimum-vibrato voice could have been that of a jazz vocalist, and the melody fascinated both of us enough to consider buying "No Angel". (I'm truly sorry if I'm not really making much sense...it's late!) When I first heard each song, I was immediately won by the original melodies, not to mention the use of more than 3 chords per song... Also, I like how she uses lyrics and themes that aren't entirely unthought of, but somehow makes them profound. I think it is easy to mistake the lyrics for blunt and meaningless, but really I think the music makes them more interpretive. "Here With Me" seems dark and haunting to me at times, and at other times pensive but hopeful. "All You Want" can be sarcastic, or wistful. "Hunter" and "My Life" are obviously defiant, in slightly varying ways. The idea behind "Isabel" is surely not defined; I picture a different scenario each time I hear it. The same w/"My Lover's Gone"--I have thought of a deceased lover, or perhaps being lost at sea, or maybe nothing like that. The line about "no earthly ships" is what makes it, well, interpretive. (I hate to be redundant.) I love the combination of techno-synthesized rhythms & sound effects etc. with fairly peaceful melodies and harmonies. It creates a unique style I haven't really heard before. Usually when I listen to a cd it is a rather frustrating thing, because I skip the tracks I don't like and thus get little listening enjoyment. But when I listen to Dido's cd I can relax and know I don't have to dread the next track, because I completely enjoy each song on the cd. Incidentally, I also decided to buy the new cd "Outrospective" of Dido's brother's band, "Faithless." They're a little more techno and they even do some rap--but I think I can handle it, after all, Dido sings on it. :)
