Free Music Notes for No AngelFree Music Review: Thought-provoking Hit: 5 Stars
This album is my entire last relationship in one condensed package. Dido has my thoughts in her mind and puts them to song. I could never express myself as beautifully as she has done. Thank the heavens above for letting me hear her beautiful voice when I need her the most. My lfe will never be the same & I owe it all to Dido & my former girlfriend. Here's the songs: Track 2 is what I believe that my lover was thinking in her last days with me. Track 1 is how I felt after I was alone. Track 3 was when I believed that she must have found someone better. Track 4 is when I have resigned myself to the fact that YES, IT IS DEFINITELY OVER & SHE'S NOT COMING BACK!! Track 5 reminds me of how we slept so soundly together & what she could be potentially missing by leaving me & not loving me anymore. Track 6 is trying to remember all the good things that had happened & how she made me feel. Track 7 is how I usually feel, you know: dejected & alone. And so on and so on. The only song that gives me any hope is Track 12, "Take My Hand" I hope that the truth will come out and that she'll believe in me forgive the ramblings of a heartbroken, love-sick, lesbian music fan who is now in the murky depths of soul-searching her very existence upon this earth....maybe someday I'll see that giant orange ball of flame in the sky.....until then...I'll just keep my purple shades in the glovebox.....please buy & enjoy the CD
Free Music Review: Beaucoup Enchantee, Dido.... Hit: 5 Stars
From the opening bars of "Here With Me", the seduction of the soft but subtly penetrating voice of Dido and her music (Who is responsible for nailing these creative, sympathetic and perfect arrangements for this young songstress!?!?!), melodically rich, atmospherically enchanting, heart-to-heart conversive, will win you over into levels of your finer soul as well as human heart. With her exceptional beauty and modest demeanor, but definite alive-feelingness conveyed, and her mystique (not just feminine but as in mystical, yes) the gilding of the lily for one's attraction to her phenomenon is complete and unimpeded. But the 99% is the songs, the delivery with conviction, the gentle but rapier-tranchant force and beauty of them, within their arrangements of simple, quiet genius, that are the (big) game here. I guess "Here With Me" is the big attraction, but there is no need to ever hit the skip button. Actually, "Hunter" hooked me first (you've got to love that cover photo of the CD-single, secondarily), and "Thank-You" has become a Smooth Jazz staple. I get out of the way and sign off now so any of you not yet acquainted (somehow) can go out and buy this album. Quiet listening, but quite a listening experience. Just hoping Dido will listen to her better angels and maintain the musical standard and quality with her next offering, so we can enjoy the enthrall a little longer and not come down to earth again yet too soon.
Free Music Review: A MODERN CLASSIC Hit: 5 Stars
To put it simply, No Angel is as near perfection as any album I have ever heard. There is not one song here that is not entirely original, and Dido's combination of wonderful melodies with spot-on vocals is unbelievable.
Track Ratings-
1) Here With Me- 9/10- nice chorus, but slightly unmemorable.
2) Hunter 10/10- simply perfect song with a great beat and catchy lyrics
3) Don't Think of Me- 7/10- the only average song on the album, this is song is OK but rather overblown.
4) My Lover's Gone- 9/10- simple and beautiful love song
5) All You Want 10/10- I love her vocals on this song, which also has a lovely melody and great lyrics, with a twist at the end.
6) Thankyou- 9.5/10- great opening which was made famous in Eminem's song Stan- the chorus doesn't really fit though.
7) Honestly OK- 8.5/10- this requires a few listens, but is a song where we can truly appreciate Dido's vocal talents.
8) Slide- 9/10- great rhytm and chorus
9) Isobel- 9.5/10- Touching lyrics and a great buildup to a good chorus
10) I'm No Angel- 10/10- for me the best song on the album- this track just blows you away with a very different, slick melody, great lyrics and vocals.
11) My Life- 8/10- this is just solid filler, with rather ordinary lyrics
12) Take My Hand- 8.5/10- this was a bonus track and is rather different, substituting the smooth rhytm of I'm No Angel with a slower, more sober love song beat.
Free Music Review: So this is where the sample on Eminem's "Stan" came from... Hit: 5 Stars
Dido's first claim to fame was a sample from her song "Thank You" on "Stan", the story of an obsessed Eminem fan. Her album had been out for quite a while, but this beautiful voice heard in the chorus of Stan made people want to know who this girl was, giving No Angel a sudden sale boost. But as we all know now, Dido is more than the "it's not so bad" girl. No Angel is nothing less than a masterpiece, with a sound that is a blend of Jewel-esque folk, pop, trip-hop and electronica (let's not forget that before going solo, she was a part of Faithless , and it really shows on this album). But what I love about Dido is her lyrics, so simple but poetic and touching at the same time, and her soothing, silky voice. In a desert of oversinging pop divas, Dido is an oasis of fresh air. Her voice, which fits her music perfectly, has the ability to get you in a relaxed mood where you can listen to it for hours without getting annoyed by it. That's more than I can say for the likes of Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey, who make me want to turn off the radio everytime their songs come on because their constant screaming is unbearable. Plus, she never relies on her looks and sexuality to sell records, unlike the aforementioned gals. Dido doesn't make music to prove she can sing: she does it because she is good at it and because she has a lot of emotions to share. A must-have for anyone who can recognize real talent and good music.
Free Music Review: I wish this wasn't popular... Hit: 5 Stars
I know this might not make any sense to some, but this album is so good I wish it wasn't getting radio play. Sure, I want Dido to make the money she deserves, but what bugs me is that the more mediocre (but still pretty damn good) stuff on this album is getting popular, while some other way better tracks are being ignored. Yes, "Here With Me" was a good hit, after being boosted by being the theme to "Roswell", but "Thank You"? I was expecting...no, hoping that Hunter would be next. Hunter is one GREAT song. Probably the best on the CD. And it's, you know, catchy too, so where is it on MTV?...Hello? But I guess the teeny-bopper scene is too fluffy and happy to welcome any moody song that is about a feel of escaping from a relationship, instead of being romantic. But no, I'd bet anything that "All You Want" is next, because it's so cute and romantic and happy!...Well, now that I've lectured you all, I'll just say that anyone who buys this and only listens to the radio hits is really missing out. The whole CD has a great mood. I listen to "Honestly OK" and "Slide" every single time I'm sad, and it really gives me a great release. And the bonus track, I think it's called "Take My Hand"?...whatever, it's REALLY amazing. The whole album is amazing, and unless you can't stand anything sad, it never gets boring. I highly recommend this album.
