Free Music Review: No Angel: Dido Debuts As The Best New Artist In Years
Hit: 5 Stars

Dido, arguably the most talented and original artist to hit the music scene in years, delivers a stunning debut album that will haunt your senses. Fans who have been craving more Dido after hearing her beautiful ballad, "Thank You" (featured on the Sliding Doors Movie Soundtrack), will find that Dido's album far exceeds their expectations. Dido's genuine and stunning vocal abilities are a welcome respite from the overdone studio divas Celine Dion and Mariah Carey. More akin to Everything But The Girl and Sarah McLaughlin, Dido's music is infused with the funky beats and effects found in electronica. Aided by her brother, Rollo, who has his own band and who co-wrote many of the songs on No Angel, Dido creates a diverse and engaging album that balances poetic lyrics and a rich, angelic voice with a variety of jazz and pop sounds -- as well as some funky beats, edgy samplings and a symphony of winds and strings. A rarity these days, the entire album satisfies -- particularly "Don't Think of Me", "All You Want" and "Thank You". Dido proves to be a formidable figure on the music scene and deserves a mountain of recognition and praise. A copy of No Angel should be in every music lover's collection.

Free Music Review: Music to Every Ear
Hit: 5 Stars

Lyrics aside, this solo album debut by Dido is absolutely captivating and ranks as one of my all-time favorite CDs. Im always on the lookout for a refreshing CD that has a distinctive sound, and this album is one of those CDs you can place in your stereo for months at a time and not tire of it. In fact, Ive loaned this album to 10+ people, all of who have different music tastes than myself, and each one enjoyed it so much, they ended up buying a copy of their own, even back in the heydays of Napster.

Im not quite sure how to classify the sound. Its just a very mellow and relaxing album without sounding the least bit new age-ish. I supposed its very Seattle-ish, if anything: the kind of music you would imagine playing in the background as you walk along quiet city streets late at night with the threat of rain hovering over your head. Her brother mixes in some great clean beats that balance with her delicate alto voice perfectly. Unfortunately, some of the lyrics are rather inane and shallow, but I rarely listen to the words in songs so it didnt bother me.

If you like a mellow Madonna, a minor-key Sarah MacLachlan, a slow Dave Matthews Band, or U2s Joshua Tree, check out this CD. I have yet to meet someone who regretted buying it.

Free Music Review: Dido is a modest angel
Hit: 5 Stars

Dido's No Angel sounds angelic to me. Probably the most beautiful album Ive heard in awhile, Dido delivers a quiet, catchy package of tunes. "Here with Me" is beautiful and soft, like a warm blanket on a cold winters night. "Thank You", the breakthrough second single is another standout and contains the chorus you just couldnt escape for awhile (and still cant on top 40 pop radio). Its strange that this cute as a button Dido had anything to do with Eminem; their conflicting personalities made his "Stan" and her "Thank You" a hit, and it seemed like an odd couple match in heaven. It worked beautifully. The whole album is listenable and theres no need to skip. Its laced with light pop, crunches of electronic ambience, and just the right amount of attitude ("Dont Think Of Me"). "Hunter" is another done me wrong song where our heroine sings about kings, queens, and crowns that feel too heavy now. With a dash of Alanis, Sinead, and on "Take My Hand", maybe the dance street smarts of Madonna, Dido has been to Lilith and back, and all it took was a year for No Angel to sink into the TRL generations' skulls. Its like a great secret, a great cup of coffee,... or a nice warm blanket.

Free Music Review: This is some good rootin' tootin' folk-tronica!

Trip-hop not catchy enough for ya? Think Sarah McLachlan is too wishy washy? Electronica too caffeinated for your senses? Well then, I've got the perfect CD for you! It's called "No Angel" by a talented new singer named Dido. Yes, that's her real name. Her music at times resembles an electronic Enya. It's slow...but not too slow. It's folky, but too folky. It's poppy, but not too poppy. It's dreamy...but...hey! You can never have enough dreamy! Don't get me wrong, I think Sarah McLachlan is very talented, but, I bought one of her CD's and I was bored to pieces. This CD gives me what I want in a folk/rock singer. Of course the best song here is "Here With Me". I heard it on 120 Minutes and I was hooked! But the lovely Dido offers other lovely dreamy ambient pop numbers like "Don't Think Of Me", "All You Want", the ever popular "Thank You", and "I'm No Angel". Don't get me wrong, it's all good, but, those are the best of the bunch. Dido's finally getting some recognition! In fact, you could almost say she's mainstream! Good gravy! Something I like is actually popular! Woah! Heh heh, well, this review is finito now. Buy this CD ya pansy!

Free Music Review: Beautiful And Filled With Depth.
Hit: 5 Stars

"No Angel" is one of those special, rare album releases where every single track delivers, lyrically and melodically. It is music that does not get old with the passage of time, but in fact, it gets better the more you listen to it. There is music here for every mood, when you're in love, when you're heartbroken, when you're happy and when you're sad. And Dido has a beautiful voice that can be haunting, uplifting and captivating. "My Lover's Gone" is the best song here, it is haunting, with a touch of ancient musical styles arranged for modern sounds. And the lyrics are deep and clear. It is a very beautiful song. The lyrics in all the songs are unique and clear, with real thoughts and feelings vibrating between the lines. So many times do we get artists who present lazy ways of expressing their musical ideas, not here with Dido, who presents some of the best lyrics I've ever heard from a female artist. "Here With Me" is also full of emotion and is on par with Sarah Brightman's rendition of it in "La Luna." This is an album with a unique sound for those looking for wonderful, deep modern music. I cannot wait for new music from this most excellent artist and her crew.
