Free Music Review: A great look at Dio's entire career

Ronnie James Dio is a well-known name in the Rock' n` Roll world, the small man with such a powerful voice has been successful on his own and with other bands as well. The Rock' n' Roll genre has had many great singers over time and some have come to be known as legends today, I must say that in my opinion Ronnie James is certainly one of those legends. It's not an easy task to put the man's entire career on two discs and pick from all of the songs the ones that are worthy of being included on the discs (There's a lot of material to choose from and good one at that too).
It's true that Dio's solo career alone could take the whole two discs alone but while that would be great "Stand Up And Shout" offers a more complete look at his entire career which includes his time in Elf, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and Black Sabbath (all that's missing is the songs he did with Roger Glover but maybe the record company couldn't put them here). It's a more complete look at his career which I think is great, I hope someday they release something even better but I think this is very good.
There are three songs form Elf, three from Ronnie's time in Rainbow, 8 from his time in Black Sabbath and 15 as a solo artist. Honestly I can't complain much about this anthology because it covers pretty much everything Dio has done in a great way. I only wish that they would have included "Stargazer" from Rainbow and I don't know why it's not included here! Also as many reviewers said before "Mystery" should be here, it's a great more pop kind of song that gained some popularity back then with the video accompanying the song. Other than those two songs missing I feel that for what this compilation was going for its excellent, in fact Dio himself seemed to approve of "Stand Up And Shout" as he wrote some of the liner notes. There are some songs I would have replaced with others like "Straight Trough The Heart" with "Caught In The Middle" but that's just details because all of the songs here deserve to be and they're all good it's as simple as that. I think it's cool that they put one live song from "Live Evil" with Black Sabbath and one from his solo band; it's always good to have a live taste of an artist.
What can I say? I'm a huge fan of Ronnie and yes I already own most of this and there isn't anything new here but I can't deny that this compilation album is truly a fantastic look at his career. You get more of Dio's songs here than on any other compilation and it is a very diverse one covering pretty much all he ever did. If you're just getting into Dio this would be a great look at this career if that's what you want, otherwise you may want to get "The Very Beast of Dio" instead which covers his solo years and has most of his "hits". Dio might be dead but he will live forever trough his music. This anthology is great at what it is. It all depends on what you're looking for really but if you want more than just a few hits from Dio's solo career I would recommend this set. Oh and I think that the artwork looks great( much more true to Dio than "The Very Beast of Dio" in terms of artwork) and the liner notes are good and fun to read. Five stars.
