Free Music Notes for Dream EvilFree Music Review: Dream Evil, DIO Hit: 5 Stars
Great Dio album. Still one of my favorites. Strong vocals and guitars. Better than Sacred Heart. Dio's last really good album.
Free Music Review: Japan Remaster is MUCH MUCH better than the 'tinny' USA release!! Hit: 4 Stars
Great overlooked album by DIO - especially for those who like 'fast' Dio.
This review is to recommend the HARD N HEAVY 24 bit remaster release out of Japan. Yes, it is more expensive, but be assured that the remastered recording is VERY FAR SUPERIOR to the current and past US release they are pawning off for $5.00 NEW all over the place.
The US release is a tinny-sounding muffled, distorted, mess while the Hard n' Heavy Japan release (available here on Amazon) returns this recording to what it should have always been. Strong bass, clear cymbals and no muffled Ronnie vocals.
Usually I am not impressed enough by remasters to warrant the upgrade and extra bucks, but DREAM EVIL was a botched recording from the start and this Japan release sounds more like the standard set by the original Holy Diver/Last in Line CD releases.
Well worth the extra money for fans looking to appreciate this recording to the fullest!!!!
Free Music Review: Dio Dream Evil. Underrated masterpiece Hit: 4 Stars
The cd starts with an hallucinating keyboard sound that opens the first track "night people."All of Dio's elements of sorcery, imagination and top notch heavy metal are there. The solos are challenging but melodic and the structures of the songs are inspiring. There might be some weaker moments in songs like "I could have been a dreamer".....maybe. It is not a rocker or a ballad. It is a very reflective song. But all in all it is classic Dio. No apologies and go - for - the - throat metal. it does not have the five star treatment due to the couple of weak moments as stated before. But all in all if you are into Dio....You Dream Evil! RIP Ronnie
Free Music Review: Great Album Hit: 4 Stars
I've always been attracted to Ronnie's leather-lunged voice, and he knows how to belt out rock with the best of them.
Dream Evil is a great example of his expanding from the start with his earlier albums. Here, his singing seems to be a bit more laid back, more mellow, but still with a lot of balls.
There is some excellent guitar playing in here as well as great keyboards by Claude Schnell.
My favorites are I Could Have Been A Dreamer and Dream Evil.
Highly recommended.
Free Music Review: Not Very Good Hit: 2 Stars
This is not a very good Dio album. Vivian Campbell left/was fired after the Sacred Heart album and Dio's solo work has never been quite the same. Pretty mediocre songwriting throughout and it once again has that horrible high treble mix just like Sacred Heart. This one is strictly for Dio die-hards.
