Free Music Review: A Perfect Album.

From the first notes of the hit single "I Know" to the "NY Reprise" that closes the LP, Dionne Farris covers an astounding amount of ground in the space of 15 tracks and does everything to perfection. Eight years on, it's still very hard to understand why this release wasn't a bigger hit because there is truly something here for everyone. Backed by a note perfect band led by guitarist David Johnson, Farris puts her personal stamp on hard rock (the incredible "Passion") acoustic pop ("Don't Ever Touch Me Again" a ballad about spousal abuse, "Now Or Later")accapella and doo-wop ("Human")and even ambient/house/jazz textures on the inspirational "Find Your Way".Social issues and personal crisis are on the agenda too, here represented by the funky, wah-wah drenched "Stop To Think" (which samples Lenny Kravitz' "Freedom Train") and "Water" sort of a lyrical cousin to the even funkier "Reality". No stone is left unturned on this stunning album and the only fault I can find isn't with the music here, it's with the simple minded listening public who turned their backs on music of this brilliance. More than 2 years have passed since Ms. Farris was supposed to release the followup to "Wild Seed...." and one wonders whether her next album was so terrific that the record simply refused to release it at all. Too Bad, because another dose of Dionne would do us all some good.
