Free Music Notes for CommuniqueFree Music Review: Dire Straits at their best Hit: 5 Stars
Conventional wisdom is that this is Dire Strait's least successful album but I actually think the opposite is true. The groove the band creates and sustains across the album is amazing, the songwriting is gentle, intelligent, humorous. This is Dire Straits at their most sophisticated without any of those silly chart toppers or over-produced bombast that plague their later efforts. This CD has aged very well.
Free Music Review: Masterpiece! Hit: 5 Stars
I think this is a fantastic album - it may not have a standaout track, but the consistency of the songwriting, the sparse, economical production and Mark's guitar playing is fantastic. This is definitely a slow-burner, which you will keep returning to without getting bored. My personal favourite song is 'Follow me Home'. This is better, in my view, than the over-blown production of the later albums.
Free Music Review: Great Dire Straits album! Hit: 5 Stars
I am a huge fan of Mark Knopfler, but even so I was not expecting this Dire Straits album to be this good. Communique combines the best of both worlds, with it combo of soulful blues and esoteric Knopfler riffs and lyrics. Just a pleasure to listen to.
Free Music Review: No Need For Big Hits Here Hit: 5 Stars
This album has everything you could ask for but the big hit. It is by far my favorite Dire Straits album and for good reason. Every song is good in it's own way. Once Upon A Time In The West and Lady Writer are the best but all the songs here are good.
Free Music Review: Single Handed Sailor Hit: 5 Stars
This album contains one of the most overlooked songs of Dire Straits, namely the one entitled 'Single handed sailor'. That song is in my humble opinion one of the best ones by this band, which makes the album a must for all lovers of real music!
