Free Music Review: One of the best CDs I've ever purchased

I just recently got into listening to Dire Straits, and have grown extremely fond of this group's ability to perform music. This particular CD I especially like (I also have Brother in Arms). One of my favorite songs on this CD is the song "Sultans of Swing", which I spent last night listening to. It's not exactly a complicated song, 3 guitars, drums, vocal that I could hear. The melody, though, is really good - better than most anything else I heard from Eagles or Led Zeppelin.
I highly recommend this CD if you're either a Dire Straits fan, or just a newbie like myself. This CD is a good groundwork to really get into their music more (I'm in the process of buying all the CDs from them I can find).

This comp. did a bought directly, when it came out....thank god for that! it's was worth the money, thats for sure. The album has 16 tracks thats very good no problem, most of the best hits is here, some not, which i can understand. "Money for nothing", the comp. from -1988 has some....of this. And the LIVE-tracks are very brilliant too, very solid,- (they are the best on live perf.)- perfectly instrumental, whith the good lyrics...in terrific teamwork. They plays outstanding together, and the crowd noise on this, are like usually whith, like it always has been..and should be. gives a perfect Live -feeling, whith the music and little whith the audience. this is the best record. thanks, from J.LFree Music Review: Very Best Indeed

As far as compilations go, this one truly spoils all Dire Straits fans and novices alike. Starting out with the great classic "Sultans of Swing", and working it's way through sixteen amazing tracks, making for well over 70 minutes of great music. This album hits on all of Dire Strait's styles, and by using certain live versions of tracks, accurately portrays the simple genius that is Mark Knoppfler and his gang. Even the liner notes are interesting and comprehensive. Unfortunately, there is no previously unreleased material, so true fans don't need this album, but it does make for a great intro, or an addition to the general classic rock fan's collection. Dire Straits was made great by Mark Knopfler's relentless pursuit of technical guitar excellence and mastery of the subtleties of the English language. Great music AND meaningful lyrics--an increasingly rare breed these days!This is a wonderful compilation of some of Dire Straits best work, from the raw energy of their classic "Sultans Of Swing" of 1978 to their hauntingly enchanting closer to the film Local Hero, "Wild Theme". Every song is an artistic gem, with layers of meaning to be gleaned only from repeated listens.
The only disappointment here is the exclusion of Telegraph Road, which can be found on the Love Over Gold CD--another classic!

As a beginning collector of CDs',I picked up this one after seeing a video of Dire Straits play "Sultans of Swing" on VH1. Mark Knopfler made that Fender guitar do everything but sit up and beg! God, if I could play that good, I would quit my job and just go sit under a tree and play!Back to the CD, It has the already mentioned "Sultans of Swing", "Private Investigations", "Money for Nothing", "Walk of Life" and 12 other great songs and it is well worth your money. The only thing I would like more of is Mark's playing and may have to buy "Sailing to Philadelphia" as I understand it is a winner also.
