I hadn't heard much of Dire Straits before I got this CD, but I have a new appreciation for their music. The soothing, haunting guitar and pensive lyrics hooked me immediately. My favorite song in this collection is probably "Romeo and Juliet" because it puts an entirely new spin on an age-old story. I was a little disgruntled when I discovered that this version of "Money for Nothing" was edited, but overall the CD is wonderful.Free Music Review: This album release could very well be the last from the band

The tracks selected for the cd do not offer anything new for the seasoned fan of Dire Straits, but could be perfect introduction for the new generation. As far as the live concert on the second cd of the two cd package,Mark Knopfler plays songs from his Dire Straits days as well as songs from his first solo album, Golden Heart.Truly amazing guitar wizardry from one of the greatest guitar masters of all time! When I first heard Mark Knofler sing I thought he was just a Geordie Bob Dylan but his voice grew on me. His guitar work is exemplary. The songs on this CD show the imaginative lyrics of this band - from the generation gap in "Sultans of swing" to the macho "Heavy fuel" to the satiric "Money for nothing".One of the best exponents of classic rock in the 1980s - varied and exciting as well as cool. Enjoy!

This album contains all of Dire Straits big hits. I don't think there's any song I don't like on this album. The last song of the album is a live versin o "Local Hero". That song is just fantastic! And track 15, "Your Latest Trick", also live, is great too. It sounds lika a TV theme, like "Sunset Beach". A couple of years ago, my car got stolen and all my cassettes were gone, including all my Dire Straits cassettes. Instead of replacing all of my collection, this is next best thing. The selection of Dire Strait's greatest hit could not be better, except for a couple of songs. This is a must for any die hard Dire Strait fan. I am going to purchase Alchemy Live next.
