Free Music Review: Great memories and great fun Hit: 5 StarsI too am one of the 20-something parents that loved this album when I was young, and I plan to share it with my children. I have many good memories of listening to these records (we had Volumes 1 and 2). Our family was a musical singing family, so these were great songs to learn and sing in the car.My sisters and I used to have hours of fun singing and dancing to these song. The record made great accompanying music for doing chores. We used to see if we could pick up all our toys before "I've Been Working On The Railroad" was over. And then we'd mess up the room and do it all over again. My favorites were "It Ain't Gonna Rain No More" and "The Green Grass Grew All Around". Regarding the singer, he is Larry Groce. He was nominated for a Grammy for Best Children's Recording, I believe for this recording. Some of the songs do include a children's chorus. The original credits on my record say the performers are: Larry Groce and the Disneyland Children's sing-along chorus.
Free Music Review: Not "Disney Movie" songs---traditional Americana! Hit: 5 Stars...I was so surprised to find the traditional songs brought back to life in a format that everyone in the family loved. We ran our tapes right into the ground with thousands of hours of listening, singing along, and dancing to the music...Well, this series has stood the test of time for us through our older children, and I am so happy to find the tapes put on CD so our younger set can memorize them and love them as we do. Some kids' music makes the teenagers groan and beg to have turned off, but this isn't one of them. I am not exaggerating, this is the best children's sing along you will ever find. The male voice is at a pitch that children can match, his folk guitar arrangements are just right, and children's voices add to the fun. You'll be so happy you purchased this for yourself, your friends, your children, your grandchildren, or for those who have never heard or forgotten about American folk music.
Free Music Review: What a waste of time.....and money ! Hit: 2 StarsI thought whatever comes from Disney is a gem. But I was greatly mistaken on this one ! When I went around scouting for a nursery rhyme CD for my newborn, there were obviously a huge range of choices, and I picked this one from Disney, mainly because .....well, it's Disney, known for all the wonderful songs from those classic cartoon films. And I noticed that these songs in Vol 1 are from the 70s and before, must be real classics. But no ! was I ever wrong !Firstly, you have only one boring singer singing ALL the songs. Though his voice is smooth and suitable for children songs, but I expected more variety, like some girl, boy, woman or old man lending their voices too, and maybe some sound effects, like a choo choo train and what not ! That would have been very entertaining to the kids. And the backing instrumentation is deadpan mundane ! Secondly, the CD's only 37 minutes. C'mon do a great favour for these kids and fill it up to some 60 minutes or so, don't force the little ones to dig more from their pockets ?!
Free Music Review: I FINALLY FOUND IT! Hit: 5 StarsAs a child I remember having several tapes casettes of children's songs that I absolutely wore out. A long time ago, after I had "grown out of" the tapes, my mom lent them to my cousin who was pregnant with her first child. We never got them back. I barely remembered the tapes except for a few songs and for some reason, while sitting here in my college dorm's computer labs, I decided to look for them. I remember that the red tapes came with a sing-a-long booklet and I thought I remembered a picture of Mickey mouse with a beard next to the song "Grandfather's Clock". With this notion I set out for the Disney website and indeed found several volumes of children's songs. I slowly browsed through the song titles...each sounding more and more familiar until I had reached "Just for You". I used to sing this song to my mom as a child, and all that I could recall of it was that there was something about an apple in it. I almost started crying when I saw it.These volumes (ALL FOUR OF THEM) were a part of my childhood and though I can't purchase them right now (poor college student) I'm glad that I know where to find them!!!!!
